What silly things is your horse scared of?

I am a bit bored tonight - haha! Tell me what silly things your horses are scared of.

So today, me and Tash went for a hack. We went past a shooting range that was open - the guns were going off every few minutes and she did not flinch however when we walked past a teeny bit of white wood that has flaked off a nearby gate she jumped about 10 feet in the air and looked at it as if it was going to eat her haha!

Just the other week we did spook busting and she did not flinch at the windmills, tarpauline or bunting blowing in the wind but god forbid she has to walk past a piece of white wood :eek:

She makes me laugh so much :D
 
To date it was a foal :rolleyes: ironic i know

Walking down a lane where someone had fly tipped, rubbish, tele stands etc all over the place she didnt flinch looked at it yes and didn't see this scary foal in the field next to her till it was to late.. instead of having a proper look she decided to turn round and head for home ;):D:rolleyes:
 
the bins that other liveries use to soak their hay, that have been in the exact same spot for the last 3 years, that he gets lead past twice a day, every day. At least once a week though they are to be treated with extreme caution and suspicion and you must maintain eye contact with the bins at all times whilst passing, preferably with a snort or two thrown in for good measure. Weird animal!
 
My horse is scared of anything that pops out at her etc rabbits people horses anything that comes out from something :p fine if she can see things.
 
my cob is literally bombproof (she used to live next to army bomb disposal!) but she's terrified of lambs (is fine with sheep though), doesn't like cats either, perfect with all big/loud machinery except cherry picker, and doesn't bat an eyelid at a massive piece a tarp blowing about in the wind as we hack past it but runs for the hills when she see's an empty shavings bag lying there not moving! Got to love her :)
 
My old 14.2 spooked at a child on a small 11.2hh at a PC rally.... when we got him a mini Shetland as a companion... all hell broke loose! haha
 
Mine has a history of pulling funky moves when confronted with birds... Not a fan of windmill bird scarers either. He has also had mini meltdowns at sheep and a small piece of sheep skin, though he has since decided these are not out to murder him after all...
 
Al's horse is scared of the bar that my dad spent ages putting up for him so he could have a breeze through his stable and it would be more open plan. He stood at the back of the stable and snorted, and needed bribing over to it. He's still not convinced it's a safe item to be near... A simple plank of wood.

Al pointed out if it were flagged, he wouldn't think twice about jumping it...

When I rode him yesterday it was a map waved vaguely towards him by a teenager in the wood, and then the log-pile but he didn't know which way to go so nearly did the splits! Silly boy :D
 
Really silly things actually..

Yesterday I hacked out we passed bins, horses behind bushes, the dust men going about there day job (had to wait behind them so she watched the whole event), motorbikes, cars, trucks with rattling trailers, galloping horses in the fields and s man chucking all sorts in his skip with tarpaulin blowing in the wind.. she spooked at none of it..

However she spooked at a plain rock someone had put on there front garden to stop people parking, a white post, nothing at all at one point as far as I could see there was nothing there! And a branch that was sticking out the bush?!
 
With the advent of DR Green, the list for my normally sane and sedate boy is currently endless:

His shadow
All cows
Sheep
Hedges
Bridges
Water
Black and white cows are the devil
Drains
Birds
Rabbits
Beware of the bull signs


Currently we are ok with all kinds of traffic, road markings and, yeah that's about it!

The rest causes hm to puff up like a cockerel, perform intricate dressage movements and snort like puff the magic dragon on speed:D

The bag the carrots are in... he's constantly torn between snorting and backing away looking warily at the rustly bag with his eyes popping out of his head and wanting the carrots that are in it.... if however he happens upon a bag of carrots that have been left lying around he will happily pick them up by the scary bag and wave them round till carrots fall out.

Also scared of the hedge in his own field... the very same hedge that he also sticks his head to nibble brambles but just strolling past it is risky.

People that walk past, they are to be snorted at and pranced past... think secretly he knows this makes him look more handsome, if somewhat of a pansy and wants them to admire his good looks
 
Everything?!

Currently, he's scared of the window in his stable. It's like a shutter, and squeaks when you open/close it.
He wasn't bothered until a month or so ago, and now runs to the back of the stable and snorts.

He's also scared if the cows opposite follow him along the hedge as we walk along the lane.
Fair enough, if he didn't spend most of 2012 on a livery yard/cattle farm, often GRAZING with the ruddy things!!

One of my boys wont flinch a bit if you jump around, make a lot of noise, wave ropes/bags at him.... Yet if you snap a twig/stick near him... Woaaah thats it he's off :rolleyes: haha.

However, the other is scared of people coughing, sneezing, walking.... Generally doing anything that a human being does :D
 
Nodding daffodils. White basically anything, stones, weeds, lines on road. Also ferns that suddenly grow where they weren't before. Logs. Me sniffing unexpectedly. All bring on heart failure in horse.
But we had to squeeze past the craziest machines recently that were digging foundations. Inches to spare, they were insanely noisy. No problem. But if one of those guys had come out waving a flower....

Treats or anything fed from your hand except carrots which she loves but wont take from anyone but me and her rider she is convinced we are going to poison her
She will eat the treats in a bucket but wont take them from your hand Polos frighten her half to death
She will walk calmly passed a gale blown tarp on a windmill roof is bombproof with noises but is scared of anything touching her sides like long reins or training aids but is fine with a riders legs weird mare

veteran mare is fine as long as rider and companions dont react to stuff bt will freak out is her rider or her mates do I am convinced she doesn't have a clue what is scary but if everyone about is losing their head she has to do the same only more so
 
Anything new. *sigh* Taking him out of the field the other day, I turned right instead of left. This was Extremely Worrying and resulted in him planting for about five minutes, despite the fact it was a path he walks several times a day. He just doesn't walk it coming out of the field.

But when he's doing his RDA work, a kid can shriek down his ear, or a bird can explode pretty much under his feet, and he won't flick an eyelid, as long as it's happening somewhere he's been several times before.

He's not an adventurous soul, bless him, and he does like his routine.
 
One of mine used to be super spooky though he has settled with age! It's always silly things he jumps at like a bit of fence that's a slightly different shade of brown to the rest, or a rock with a different type of moss :rolleyes: However the other morning while hacking a bird flew out of the bush and practically up his nose and he tossed his head more in annoyance than anything but to my surprise no spook. He is a funny thing! :)
 
Cows. The baby ones are really scary and must not be walked past under any circumstances. Pigeons, these are actually ninja warriors sent to destroy all horses, why will no one listen? Since spring grass turned up also the school fence, Jumps, shadows, grass, the cat, thin air and his own feet
 
My "bomb proof" pony, who even as a baby was happy to lead when the others saw monsters ahead finds ROCKS, the ones they put in gateways to stop break ins, super scary, she can spook at the same one every time we pass. The tb finds her freshly filled water bucket scary. The ex racer (who only converted to a domestic life last autumn) is very laid back, he needs bomb proof pony to go first on the way out but is happy to lead at a fast walk going home! Don't we just love them.
