Hi all,
I have a 14.1hh (just!) Connemara, and I am planning on getting her a new bridle, but I have no idea whether to go pony or cob! Her current one is a cob (I think) but is on all the top holes and a little baggy, I think the leather may have stretched as I think it is quite old (hence the reason for a new one!) I really like the look of the Kincade cavesson bridles, so was wondering which size I would be better off getting? Thanks 😊

**Note - she has a Shires Topaz headcollar in Cob that is a little big for her, if that gives any indication of her head size!**

I have 4 connies and their bridle sizes range from pony to full size........... the pony sized and cob sized ones have full size browbands. You may find that mixing and matching pieces gets you a perfect fit!

My 14.2 Connie is in a Mark Todd cob size bridle which fits very nicely, he does't have a big head....but I struggle with head collar sizes as the makes seem to vary. You may have to make up your own? Good luck.

I know it's a completely different breed, but my old 13.3hh NF was in a cob bridle.
If it comes to it you could always exchange it if it doesn't fit?

The size to buy? The one that fits! You are asking a question that only you can answer. I'm just 5'4" and take a size 5 shoe. I really only need that size in order to get the width. My sister who is 3 inches taller than me takes a size 8. My friend who is 5'2" takes a size 3. Measure what you have already then measure the bridle you want to see if it will fit. My mare was 15.1hh but that was all withers. She wore a full size bridle.

My 13.3 (chunky old fashioned) connie is in cob size everything, but pony size cheekpeices. Though I am a bit OCD and I like the top of the buckle to be in line with the top of the eye!

She may be a mix of both!
My NF has beautiful deep cheek bones so needs a cob size head piece and browband, but pony size noseband and cheek pieces :)

My Connie X, although bigger than yours, has a mix, mainly cob with a full size nose and and browband. I took an old bridle of his to the saddlers and measured it against the new, just to make sure.

I have a shires cob on my 15.2 and she's on the top hole on most things but have a harrys horse cob and we are on the bottom hole for everything. would recommend the shires as the leather is lovely and has lasted beautifully

Sabre and Jeffries do pick and mix bridle , I have sabre full with cob cheeks for my highlands. Native pony bridles are lovely.

@ponies4ever Was the shires cob on the highest holes for your 15.2 did you say? Ahh it's so annoying having a pony inbetween sizes!!
