When I bought Fly he came with a purpose made whopping 20" saddle! (I don't know anyone who has one that big). Now I am under 10st and a size 10/12. Fly is 16.3hh and not particularly 'long' (typical DWB). Just wondered how big your saddle is in relation to your horse and yourself and when you have one made to fit surely it is to fit the horse first and you second? (Although both are equally important?) I would love a saddle that fits me, probably around 17.5" I guess. but that is so far off on my list of priorities.

Mine is 17.5" i really need a bigger one for my fat a*se but it's the biggest she can take ( she's 15.1hh ), so have to go for a saddle with a really open seat to suit both of us. Saddles come in so many different shapes and sizes now, i'm sure you could find one that suits you both, I have known many horses of that height in 17.5"

I have a 16.5'' saddle. Shadow is 14.2hh and I'm 5'4'' and about 7 1/2 stone, my bum fits in it but my legs are a bit long! I wouldn't put anything much longer on her though.

Mine saddle is 17" horse is a 15.3hh-16.0hh TB, Im 5ft 6 and size 8-10 around 8 1/2 stone, Fits us both perfect

though i also have a 17.5" thorogood griffin and when sat in that it actually feels smaller than the 17" though its maybe because its got a narrower tree

We have an 18.5" saddle for pickle, he is 17.1hh cyclesdale x. He is used on working livery mainly with larger adults, and my dad is 6ft 3 and a large build hence needing it. Its probably a bit large for me.

Gosh that seems huge!

We recently had the saddler out to our new pony and he said the saddle should not come past the pony's last rib.

So if you put your saddle on your horse and follow his last rib up towards his spine, then the saddle should not be going over that point.

my horse has a 17.5" saddle, im 5'8 and 11stone, hes a TB.
bf's horse came with a 17" and it fits bf fine- although hes only trotting at the mo. he is 5'11 and 12 stone, horse is a hackney x.

Bea has 17" in both her saddles......shes a 16.2hh sport horse.
I am 5ft 3 and a size 14 with a backside a little on the too curvy side!!!
Seat size has more to do with the length of your from your knee to hip, hence me with my big ar*e quite happily riding in 17"seats.
