What size pony does my daughter need?

Hi, my 13 years old daughter has been having lessons since the age of six and has been schooling an 11.2 pony for the past few years that she is now much too big for. I think she is ready for her own pony, and has showed me that she can be responisible etc. I had horses in my younger days so I will obviously help her. The only problem is I don't know what size she needs, I've asked various friends and instructors, some have said as little as 13.2, and others have sed 16hh. She is 13, 5ft 4 approx maybe 5ft 5 and about 9 stone. She is a competent rider, can ride in an outline, jumps 3ft etc. She wants to do pony club and local shows, so what size does she need?

I'd say 14.2hh really if she wants to compete (juniors under 16 usually on ponies - depends what she wants to do) - she's not tall or heavy enough to need a 16hh!
 
From dimensions given, I would guess at no smaller than 14.2hh. Reasoning being, my daughter is 5'4 , 8stone, and 18! She is riding/competing mainly 16.2 but - still has need to ride a pony of 14.2hh She doesn't look ridiculous, but obviously slightly too big/tall. Your daughter is 13, probably still growing, so anything less won't last her five minutes! (IMO)
 
Depends what you want to do,but I'd say a nice little tbx 15.1/2hh personally, I think at 5'5 she'd out grow the pony very quickly.
 
Anything between 14-15hh I would have thought. Nothing like 16hh I don't think! I'm 14, 5 ft 4, probably not going to grow anymore, around 9 stone and I ride a little 13hh usually, though do often go up to a 15.2hh and I'm happy either way :) xx
 
She is the same age and height as my daughter who is riding a 15hh horse who is very ponyish. 14.2hh and under is only really relevant for BS juniors otherwise doesn't seem to matter.
 
Im 5'7 and have a 16.2, my friend is 5'4 and has a 16.3 but it would be a massive jump from such a small pony to a horse especially a big moving one so I think I would go for a 14.2 and then be prepared to sell in a couple of years.
 
As she's still under 16, I'd go for a 14.2 so she can still compete in childrens classes, yet, when you come to sell, will be in high demand as this size is very popular for this reason. It also won't be too m uch of a step up from 11.2 - my just 11 year old daughter moved from an 11.2 last year to a chunky 14.1 this year, and she looks fine on him but has plenty of room to grow (she's already 5ft 2). I wouldn't go smaller than 14.1-14.2, however, if you can get a well built one as we did, this might help in terms of how long it'll last (till she's 16), as it will take up her leg better.
