I need to buy a new saddle for my new horse (didnt get one with her) what size do I need to get?
She's a 16hh part warmblood

You need to get a recommended and suitably qualified saddler fitter from the web site whose link I have attached.

It's impossible to tell what saddle your horse would need, but I would have thought a medium fit 17-17.5" would be a good guess (but totally unreliable I might add). It depends on the horses shape, build, length of back, intended work load (ie. dressage needs dressage saddle, jumping needs jumping saddle, all disciplines need GP saddle) and also the length of your upper leg as to whether you require a 17, 17.5 or 18" seat. Then you need to decide on synthetic or leather, and colour. Of paramount importance the saddle must fit your horse properly, then fit you secondly. Try not to skimp of the cost of a saddle by buying synthetic, or by not using a qualified saddle fitter, as this could end up with you paying ten times as much in chiro treatment if the saddle does not fit.

The saddle fitter should look at your horse from the front, side and rear and assess the horses muscles/build/frame and what fit of saddle would fit your horse best. The fitter will then ask you what work load the horse is in and also the age of the horse to ascertain how much the horse will change shape. Then he or she will try a number of saddles on your horse to see which one(s) fit best and then you should ride in the saddle in all paces if possible and also jump the horse as high as you can to ascertain whether the saddle is a good fit and feels comfortable for you with shorter stirrups.

I would get a registered saddler to come out and they will bring a selection and work with you from there. I don’t see the point in risking the horses back if you aren't 100% sure what you are doing.

Sorry but impossible to just give a size on a forum.
I would reccomend getting a good saddler out who can bring loads to try.
I think I have a basic idea if something fits or not and tried probably 50 saddles on my old mare, none fit and it involved lots of mileage going picking them up to try. Eventually got a saddler out who struggled to get one to fit too but did. I would never try to fit a horse myself with a saddle again.
What openned my eyes was my new horse, he is a short coupled horse and saddler went into where the last rib was which I was aware of but also the different types of trees to suit him, now that is something I had never given any consideration. All the saddles I wanted were not suitable for his back shape.

Simple - whatever fits the horse - and yourself. Get a decent saddler to come out to fit a few if you are unsure yourself.

As everybodt else has said, impossible to say from a post on a Forum Board.Locate a reputable saddle fitter and they will recommend size, type etc according to your horse, yourself, and your aims.

Echo what others said about getting someone to fit a saddle. She could need anything from a 16.5" to an 18", and width is anyones guess - narrow to xxwide!

And please please don't got off and buy an 'adjustable' saddle from somewhere like ebay as one size most certainly does not fit all! Only the front angle can be changed in saddles like the wintecs - the back and the tree shape has to suit the horse too and they can't be changed. Nor buy a cheap saddle in the hope it fits - they are cheap for a reason and will cause more hassle and back pain than they're worth

I agree with Kallibear. I bought a wintec as I was told it would fit any horse and when I lost my horse decided to keep the saddle for my new horse. He was really high withered but the wintec guage said he needed a medium fit which came down too low on his withers, so I tried the narrower gullet plate which brought the saddle off his wither but then was too tight on his shoulders! Tried a front riser pad with the medium gullet plate in the end, but even this didn't come without problems - horse ended up very sore from all the weight being transferred to the back of the saddle according to the physio that had to come out and treat him after repeated bucking episodes! You defo need someone qualified who knows what they are doing as I said in my previous post. Good luck, can recommend round Solihull/Warwick if thats where your from and also who not to usex
