Just wondering what size saddle as in inches, do you use on your sec Ds? One of mine is 14.2 10yr old and in a 17" but have tried a 16" on him and looks more suitable. Seems like the 17" drowns him! It's a native pony comfort saddle.
Also have a 14h 4yr old and has been backed/ridden in a 16".

most of mine have always had 17.5" or 18" they were all built like tanks and varied in size from 14.2hh to 16hh -but i have very long legs and a big bum so i wouldnt have fit in a much smaller one! as with all horses they are all so different its really a saddler standing in front of your horse who will be able to tell what size will fit your pony and you best :)

16-16.5 I think would be ideal. Just so confusing! Lol
Both mine are short coupled. Having saddler out soon as the old cob has totally changed shape
Thanks all

mine is 14.3hh and the saddle is 17 1/2 inches. I need the room! the one is the profile picture is my old saddle. A 17inch synthetic and you can see I am sitting on the back of it!

14.2, 5'9 rug 17" saddle.

I think he would probably be better in a 16.5 but I wouldn't fit and he can take a 17

My Welsh D was a very large girl who wore a 18" Ideal Ramsay which was very comfy. The Welsh Cs all wear 16.5" to accomidate my big arse.:p

Welsh cobs vary so much, I have 14.2hh Welsh cob customers in 16-17.5", 17" would be the most common for that height. I do have a section D in an 18" but he's over 15hh. It can depend on their breeding, if you see the in hand stallions they are bred to be short in the back and often there is very little room for a saddle.
