What size (waist size) joddies would an 8 yr old need?

I'm looking at getting my little niece a pair for her birthday, but have no idea about children let alone childrens clothing! Any mummys who know? She is quite skinny... dont know where she gets those genes from! What waist size in inches should I look for?

my daughter is very skinny and she needed 22 waist jods when she was 8, she is also very tall so they were often a bit short in the leg but a 24 would have swamped her in the waist so i figured the leg is not so much of a problem if they wear chaps.
 
Depends a little bit on make. In general 8 year olds tend to go between 22-24, depending a little on their height and a lot on whether they have a tummy or not.

You say she is slim so probably a 22 - make wise Just Togs, Caldene and Gorringe usually fit slimmer kids. Dublin and shires tend to be a little bigger fitting around the legs and have more give in the waist, so may end up being too big.
