I need to replace my Champion Euro Deluxe after a knock at the weekend and am wondering whether to go for the same model, or something new...

Ooh, I'll be interested in this thread. I'm doing exactly the same thing.

My champion deluxe is way over due a replacement and I thought as I like the leather harness and it fits well, I'll go for the same one and same size. My tack shop ordered it in and it comes up too small!

I'm now having a panic that I can't get a suitable to fit. I'm now looking at the eventair if they can get it in to the shop in time and it fits. Other than that I have no idea. I don't like the standard cross over webbing straps on most of the other skull caps.

I just have the champion kids one, perfectly comfy, but I don't like the budget nylon straps. I'm after a new one with the leather harness (like the pro-lite delux) but the sizing seems a bit dodgy though as I tried some champion skulls on recently (the one that comes in diff colours, can't remember the model though!) and I was a diff size depending on the colour!
If you do get one and the shop needs to order it in then I would make sure you don't have to buy it just because they ordered it incase the sizing isn't spot on. I couldn't believe the same brand couldn't sort the sizing out just between colours!

Absolutely adore my HS1 silver skull cap - not only does it offer the highest current protection level there is, but it looks good too! Love the silver colour and flesh coloured leather straps. Also really comfy to boot - I'm on my second one (like Britestar, I too have fallen off rather a lot recently and though I'd better change it!!).

LOVE my Champion vent air hats. So comfortable, fab, leather harness and look pretty streamlined for a skull cap too! :)

Same as KatB.

Most other jockey skulls make me look like I've been shot out of a cannon apart the from the C&O model called the Ultralite, although my favorite one that fitted and looked best wast the C&O 'Kids Own' as I have a pea head so I fitted into the childrens range. :o

I prefer the deeper fitting jockey skulls, for some reason they seem to make them like cycle helmets these days (even when you have the correct size on) and have that perched look on top of your head rather fitting down around your head at the back of your neck.

Dammit I just can't one find to fit!!!! Will be taking the "2nd" one back as got pressure headache after 20 mins to try my luck with a 3rd!

I've tried a pro and a HSI! They wouldn't sell me the Charles Owen J3 as they said it didn't fit and the black version of my navy everyday hat apparently didin't fit and when I told them I had it in blue AND had had it fitted they said it can be slightly different as it was a different colour!!!!

How am I supposed to go X/C if I can't find a hat that fit's??

I never had a problem before when there was no fitting and what they say fits gives me a pressure headache. Apparently I have a "round" head. Size 55 (6 3/4) so jumping on this thread does anyone know of any "round" skull caps?

ta!

That's why I have the Charles Owen J3- I tried the Pro II but it felt awful. Technically it fitted, but it didn't feel like it covered any of the back of my head!

I've heard lots of good things about the Champion hats though, they're just not the right sort of fit for my head.

Charles Owen J3, had a few Charles Owen's, they seem to fit my head the best :)

Me too! I bought my 3rd J3 just before Xmas. Tried to go for something different this time but Champion don't suit my head shape. I did try a CO Pro II but just didn't like it as much as the J3! :)

Another vote for the Gatehouse HS1 silver skull cap. Unrivalled as far as safety is concerned and it is also soooooooo comfy- really don't get that hot in it at all. I think they are a bit more expensive than other makes/models but you can't put a price on safety!! :)

Must have similar heads LOL :)
Tried the gatehouse, but no matter how hard I pushed, it would not sit on my head properly, like Kenzo said, it's the deeper fitting ones for me

I love champion hats but they doen't fit my head! I'm inbetween sizes and it seems the only had that fits me comfortably is the Onyx. Its a nice hat though and cheap :)

Having had 3 HS1's (I have one for home use and one for competition use- 1 had to be replaced due to a hardy fall on sun-baked ground) I'd never have anything else. It's the best hat I've ever put on my head! :D

I have a HS1, but i dont think i'd replace it with another if i ever needed to.. yes it is very comfy, good protection, and i like the leather strap, but they have such smooth sufaces that any hat silk i put on flies off if i'm going for a canter or theres lots of wind etc, unless it's tightly tied down with something (and no the silks are not too big). Also they are quite bulky. Nice hats but not worth the extra price imo... Id be quite happy to go back to my charles owen cheapy hat. Nothing spectacular to look at, but very very practical, comfy etc... or if you did want something a bit smarter, then i would be looking at a champion :)

BBR- it's interesting you say about the hat silks. I've never had a problem with them... never had one fly off unless I haven't allowed enough height for a long hanging tree! :D Do you just use tape on the underside? (Incase it gets to that stage?). :)

Charles Owen J3 for me too - and again, I'm on my third. Some swine nicked one on the yard, and my Dad ran one over....
