What sort of dog?

The wee Boston Terrier is gorgeous! DO they make good pets?

Also on the subject of rotties, I have actually noticed an increase in the amount of them around here!

Probably because of the increase in crime, I wouldn't feel safe without my GSD!

If you want a dog to hack with you don't get anything with a strong hunting instinct!

I'd agree with that, I'd steer clear of lurchers too then. Whippets will probably stay with you...unless they see a rabbit.

It does sound like a lab or boxer would be perfect, my friend had one of each and they used to hack for miles with her when she was getting her eventer fit.

Although if it is a small house lab or boxer might be too big? Or suppose the labs on the smaller size (the two in my family are HUGE!) Although both are lovely dogs.

As for the increase in crime..not over here. I think they want to look like wee hard men. Either stropping around with a rottie or a staffy. Just feel sorry for the poor dogs!

Whippet whippet whippet!

I have two. They make the best pets. They don't need a lot of exercise but they will take as much as you can give them. they are quiet and loyal (so easy for your partner to take to work), they make great yard dogs because they are obedient and quiet. My older one spends 1/2hr at the yard sniffing about then goes to sleep on a pile of numnahs in the tack room. Puppy is a little more active but has never caused any trouble.

I used to take mine hacking off road and she loved it. Plus she was the only thing that could keep up with my 'related to Mill Reef' horse. LOL

Just wanted to say how gorgeous your dogs are SouthWestWhippet - nice to see another whippet lover on here.
Not sure how to attach photos to the site - I am a newbie- so cant show you my boy.
Loving your new puppy - absolutely gorgeous xx

I have to agree with Jackie, Great Danes are the best dogs in the world and will happily live in a smaller house as they always want to be with you and they get on great with other dogs and horses. I also have 2.

thank you [blushes] I am absolutely smitten. I had forgotten just how much puppies steal your heart.

Would love to see pics of your boy. My pics are all stored on a photobucket site. I can then just copy and past the IMG links.

Hope that helps!

Amazing pets! They were bred specifically to be companions, so they are very loving and devoted. I honestly don't have a single complaint. I take mine shopping, jogging, hiking, in cabs, on the plane -- she takes everything in her stride and is always good-natured. My mum, a huge Rottie and Lab fan who previously disliked all small dogs, is completely smitten with BTs now. I could go and on and on about the merits of the breed, but I shan't!

Here's a couple of videos. (Yes, we are BT loopy!
