We are about to erect a couple of stables and tack-room in our garden, the access to which will be down the side of the garden next to a beech hedge. Can anyone suggest a suitable surface for a pathway to get to the stables? It will be adjoining grass lawn so needs to be easy to mow up to and not look too "industrial". We have rejected gravel as it gets all over the grass. Are currently considering olithic scalpings which are like cobbles which when packed down set rock hard. Also thinking about honeycomb rubber matting which allows the grass to grow up through it while providing a sound base. Does anyone have any experience of these ..... or any better suggestions? Thanks.

I have the rubber mats at my gateways and in the shelter.
They are good and work better when attached to each other ( cable ties) this stops them from sinking at the edges.
We found that ours work better with a layer of hardcore or aggregate under to help to drain.
I couldnt do without mine now and they are totally non slip.
Hope this helps.
