Hi, does anyone know what sort of saddle this is that I've been given. Its cut away into the pommel and I've never seen anything like it?

Sorry, photos aren't working! You need the IMG code
smile.gif
It'll be the one below/ above the code you've got from photobucket x

It 's an old saddle with a cutback head .And it looks to have serge panels.Very old and would of been used on a high withered horse.
The post about it being an american saddlebred show saddle is interesting and it could be a possibility in which case put it on ebay and see what happens?
But i still think it's just a very old english saddle.

Looks like a saddle for saddleseat, so for a saddlebred, morgan, etc.
It is cut back as these breeds are very "upheaded" and the saddle should sit behind the shoulder as the front legs are elevated, especially at the trot. The seat is rather further back than an english saddle.

Saddleseat riding is quite good fun. There is no contact below the knee, apart from giving a canter aid, so you only have your body and thighs to give aids. The hands are held high (so you don't get caught in the long mane) and also have a very light contact as the horses are ridden in a double bridle with long shanks which is to adjust the head rather than act as brakes. The horse should be very forward going, get controlled by the lightest of aids.

I've cleaned it up this afternoon with saddle soat and it definately issaddle seat saddle as it is marked Lane Fox Registered which is embossed in the leather.
