Have on a 3yr old Welsh cob which had only been sat on and appears to be kept somewhere where there isn’t an arena and perhaps no hard standing.
Obviously hypothetically

Yes and scary. Haven’t actually seen him yet going tomorrow but want to be prepared. I’ve only ever bought ridden horses which I’ve always had 5-stage. He doesn’t lunge very well either. I guess I’ll have to discuss that if it comes to it.Exciting!
If you really want him vetted I'd ask them to take him to a vet hospital for a 5 stage if there is one anywhere close enough.
.
He’ll be a RC all rounder so a bit of everything if possible. So I do want him to be sound enough with decent conformation to do that. As on livery and already have my other mature horse I can’t afford to buy a pasture ornament.Depends what you want him for and price, obviously hypothetical, I would def get a 2 stage to check basics. But I buy sight unseen of the interweb so I can't say anything!![]()
Out of interest what would you normally x-Ray in my scenario? ThanksI wouldn’t 5 stage a 3yo. I’d sooner do X-rays. But of course that’s a bit price point dependant too!
I had a two stage with a few extras (trotted on a hard surface, small circle on hard surface etc) on a 3 1/2 Yr old who was backed but also understand why you would want a five stage.
Good luck, hypothetically
The above would be classed as vetting x-rays either a half set - Feet, fetlocks, hocks, stifles.Feet, fetlocks, hocks, stifles. OCD sites..! Possibly neck and back too.
Oh what a pain about the 6.5hr round trip wasted! After a 6.5hr round trip including travel and viewing just got message that the owner has allegedly decided not to sell. At least that means I don’t have any decision to make. I really liked him but there was a little niggle about the way he moved that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. I would have had him vetted and I’m not sure how keen the owner was about this.
She said I could vet but there were a fair few comments around “I don’t normally have a young horse vetted” so it did cross my mind that maybe she wasn’t keen. How disappointing, but maybe a lucky escape if the owner was spooked by the prospect of a vetting.
