What sort of vetting would you…

Have on a 3yr old Welsh cob which had only been sat on and appears to be kept somewhere where there isn’t an arena and perhaps no hard standing.

Obviously hypothetically 🤣

Exciting!

If you really want him vetted I'd ask them to take him to a vet hospital for a 5 stage if there is one anywhere close enough.
.
Yes and scary. Haven’t actually seen him yet going tomorrow but want to be prepared. I’ve only ever bought ridden horses which I’ve always had 5-stage. He doesn’t lunge very well either. I guess I’ll have to discuss that if it comes to it.

Depends what you want him for and price, obviously hypothetical, I would def get a 2 stage to check basics. But I buy sight unseen of the interweb so I can't say anything!😉
He’ll be a RC all rounder so a bit of everything if possible. So I do want him to be sound enough with decent conformation to do that. As on livery and already have my other mature horse I can’t afford to buy a pasture ornament.

I don’t necessarily want a 5-stage it’s just what I’ve had before for mature ridden horse but obviously not necessarily suitable for a 3yr old. I’m not familiar with it.
I wouldn’t 5 stage a 3yo. I’d sooner do X-rays. But of course that’s a bit price point dependant too!
Out of interest what would you normally x-Ray in my scenario? Thanks

My vet recommends X rays for youngsters. Older horses that have been in work without any problems for a few years are less of risk in some ways as you know they have withstood the work.

I had a two stage with a few extras (trotted on a hard surface, small circle on hard surface etc) on a 3 1/2 Yr old who was backed but also understand why you would want a five stage.

Good luck, hypothetically

The extras mentioned above should always be included in a 2 Stage as standard, the 5 stage then is generally seeing them ridden and also get the heart rate up so can be listened to before and after exercise and th again after a rest period. You can do a 5 stage of sorts on a youngster but would need a suitable area to possibly lunge/free school at a canter to get heart rate up.

Feet, fetlocks, hocks, stifles. OCD sites..! Possibly neck and back too.
The above would be classed as vetting x-rays either a half set - Feet, fetlocks, hocks, stifles.
Or a full set - Feet, fetlocks, hocks, stifles plus back

After a 6.5hr round trip including travel and viewing just got message that the owner has allegedly decided not to sell. At least that means I don’t have any decision to make. I really liked him but there was a little niggle about the way he moved that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. I would have had him vetted and I’m not sure how keen the owner was about this.

Oh what a pain about the 6.5hr round trip wasted!
I suspect pony is still for sale, but to someone who won't vet!
