What stallion for my mare?!

Ive got a 4 year old Trakehner by Holme Grove Solomon out of a premium graded mare by Holme Grove Istanbul. Here's her breeding:

I have owned her since a foal and she was professionally backed last year and is now in light work with the intention of her having winter off and then coming back into work next spring. However i have been toying with the idea of perhaps putting her in foal next year and allowing her to mature and then obviously bring her back into work once foalie has been weaned. The foal would be to keep, definitely not to sell on!She has an excellent temperament and is good in all ways. She stands at around the 16.2hh mark and to be honest this is a big as i would like to go. I'm pretty open minded as to whether she be put to another Trak or something else. Essentially i would want to breed a lovely allrounder that would be nice enough to event and showjump at lower level and would have the paces to do dressage too. She really is breath taking in her movement, and has a wonderful hind leg. She has a lovely huge walk and now she has evened up her canter is very uphill and balanced. The only thing that i have been told about her is perhaps her neck is set on a tad too low?!

It's all a bit pie in the sky at the moment but i'd really appreciate some suggestions from you guys if we do decide to go ahead next year!!

She is a beauty!!!! What type are you hoping to get - do you want something like her? Heavier? Also, would you prefer to stay pure Trakehner?? If so I would recommend Contis over at Godington Stud or Garuda K.

There is also a lovely foreign stallion (Trak) called Herzendieb who I have seen the most stunning colt by this year.

I would like something fairly similar to her, i wouldn't want anything heavier than her really though. I think the photographs are slightly deceptive in that she looks lighter in them than in reality. Not that she's a carthorse or anything but she has got a decent set of legs on her and quite a light frame at present. Whether she will continue to fill out over the next few years and 'chunk'up, im not sure.

I would want her husband to have a nice temperament, definitely wouldn't want her to go to a stallion with a 'hot' reputation at all, not that she is particularly hot but i am an amateur and do it all for fun! Not fussed on whether she goes to a trakehner stallion or another breed, equally i don't mind whether it's a british based /foreign stallion either!

I really like the look of Contis and Garuda K, what are they like temperament wise?!
 
Both of them have fab temps as far as I am aware. Contis was Champion of his grading and is being aimed at an Eventing career - as recently qualified for the BEYH champs at Tweseldown. Garuda K is a dressage boy and has THE most awesome expressive paces..his extensions are jaw dropping!

I'm so pleased with her, she really is a lovely little mare. She is my first proper youngster and my first Trakehner and despite the bad press they often seem to get she just isn't stereotypical of that at all. If anything she can be a bit docile at times. Im fortunate in that i bought her at a fortnight old and know all of her history and can hand on heart say she is totally unspoilt. I'm pretty sure they're not all like her though!!

The world is your oyster for her really. You really ought to go over to Germany next February to the Trakehner stallion show as there are so many to chose from.

I would be tempted with something like Le Rouge for her. http://www.klosterhof-medingen.de/ Super temperaments it seems (as he has himself) and he shouldn't add too much size.
I love my Herzensdieb colt from this year, he will add type and great bone and joints, but you shouldn't get anything hevaier from him. http://www.jens-meyer.com/

I also agree that Contis is throwing some lovely looking foals and he is a lovely refined boy, and Garuda K is also throwing super foals.
 
Go arabian and attempt for the ultimate sporthorse! Will also if right stallion improve neck set and length and also back length substantially.
 
Im just looking at his video now Volatis. He looks very impressive!! I really love Hohenstein as well!! I'd love to go over to Germany at some point and meet some of them in the flesh!! Must try and organise that for the future!

I've got a 4 year old trak x arab that was bought as a companion for Tilly, she is lovely and although a lot more switched on than her is very intelligent and receptive to new ideas. She is so honest, i'd love a foal from her at some point in the future too. Here is a pic of her:

Im not sure i'd want to go down the pure Arabian route with Tilly first off (although i absolutely adore HTobago on here) as i wouldn't want to end up with anything a lot hotter than her and as big as her (potentially). I do agree though Marvie, the right one would definitely help with some of her weaker points.

Never really thought about an appaloosa to be honest. The only one i've come across belonged to a friend of mine was a complete nightmare but im sure he was in the minority. Wouldn't be averse to a coloured baby though!!
 
What a lovely mare! With her being a Trakehner you're pretty much spoilt for choice with stallions as Traks seems to cross well with everything. If you stay purebred Trak I'd second Volatis' suggestion of Le Rouge. I've got one of his daughters and her temperament is amazing, literally the best I've ever come across in 20 years of owning horses. She's only 3 and is just backed and is so trainable and easy. She is lovely and forward yet doesn't get worried when helicopters fly overhead or people unload fenceposts from a metal trailer while hiding behind a hedge. She's better behaved than my 16yo!

I also like Garuda K, he's very elegant and getting great scores at Advanced dressage but I'm not sure if his full Trak approval has come through yet.

A Trak stallion I've used this year on my PSG mare is Silvermoon. The stud were great, the semen quality is excellent and he is of course the sire of Matine and another GP horse in Lars Petersen's Succes. I'm expecting something quite a lot sparkier than the Le Rouge filly from this cross but since your mare is quiet he might be a good choice? His youngsters are described as being piaffe/passage machines so should be talented for dressage.

Yet another lovely stallion is Rhondeo. He is a complete puppy dog, such a sweet temperament and a lovely mover. He finished in the top 4 in 4 different classes at the dressage winter championships and he is on the world class pathway for horses with a chance of going to the 2012 Olympics.

And one final stallion that might me worth a look is Sambertino. His offspring are doing incredibly well in dressage. He has a son (Tamberonie) who is also on the world class pathway and several sons and daughters who are competing in the FEI levels of dressage. He's known for passing on his wonderful temperament.

Simsar, Springs has kindly sent me some pics and vids of her boy, what a lovely sweet chap he is!!

At the moment i have plenty of time to decide whether or not to put her in foal next year and if i do decide to, it appears i have plenty of choices out there regarding a potential husband for her. It's a lot more complicated than it looks, this breeding lark!!

I have first-hand experience of both Primo Pageant and Billy Be Cool. They are both stunning stallions with wonderful temperaments. I put my coloured mare in foal to Billy Be Cool (Winner or the Burghley Young Event Horse 2008) and am thrilled with my beautiful filly foal. If you want to stick with Trakehner, Grafenstolz is surely the most well know in the UK, with the best track record in competition and production. I said on another post just now, that he got my mare pregnant first take, and love his type and movement. I went to the little trak/arab show to see him and his dressage rider, and they were just breathtaking, I can't wait to see him start competing this Autumn.
