For all other riding I use Smartrider stirrups. http://www.smartrideruk.com/ I got the plastic ones as they were cheaper. I have been dragged with bent leg irons in the past.

The heavier the iron the better I find they are too (providing you're not trying to minimize weight). I only put my tippy toes in as I'm very cautious of getting them stuck or not being able to release as easy should I get bucked off.
