My horses quirks include
drinking orange fanta
eating swedes from other horses stables but not the one in how own stable
and he hates shetland ponies with a passion! its just shetland ponies though

what are yours?

mine will come to call in the field all the time except when you're showing her to someone who has never met her before. then she likes to show me up by pretending to be deaf

Tazz needs her hay to be soaked, if I soak it and hang it in the stable she won't touch it but if I put it in dry she takes a mouth full and dunks it in her water bucket!! Her water ends up full of hay so now I put her a bucket next to her haynet for soaking her hay and she has her normal two buckets for drinking in the corner!

Mine opens his stable door (within seconds!), loads himself into the wagon (tries to run me down sometimes on the way - generally only when off home from an event though!)

BUT and I think probably his oddest trait is he loves to lick metal after eating! Think it must give him a strange sensation he likes. He also loves having raspberries blown on his muzzle (i think he must just be very sensitive in this area)

Antifaz won't let me mount from a block, but he's fine mounting from the ground. He hates me to pull my stirrup down when I'm in the saddle. I have to get off before removing coat, fleece, etc. He also dislikes whips (luckily I don't need one)
PF is scared of bags and things that flap, but not flags for some reason.

Mine has to have a wee when i take his haynet down, he does this every morning and night.

Oh and sometimes he takes his own boots off.

Ted adore bananas and plums.

eats with a leg waving in the air y his ears

will happily canter everywhereslowly.. till he gts eye contacts and then BAM gone.. likethe wind

hates polo's but loved extra strong mints.

She likes to have her tummy scratched, when I brush her, her hind leg will shoot out sideways to make it easier for you to get underneath and really scratch her belly, by her udder, she goes into convulsions, she loves it so much.

mine goes like a dream.....except when he has an audience...then hes likes to buck and he bucks even more if you giggle ?!?!?!?!?!?!!?

My boy Erik if stabled will grab the headcollars and bury them in his bed and when you ask them where they have gone he digs them back out and gives them to me. He won't have carrots in his feed they have to go into a seperate bowl otherwise he won't eat. He also won't poo in his bed he poos on the wall edge all the way round his stable. Easy to muck out though LOL

Earl wants to eat anything that I'm eating. He gets really upset about it. If he sees me walk past his stable eating something he kicks the door in temper! He has stolen a banana skin before and eaten it!

I managed to save one strip from his throat, I was so worried he was going to get colic.

Also, If you don't get him in from the field within 5 minutes of him stood there waiting, he has a tantrum and hurtles around the field like a loon! He literally roars with temper and bucks as high (he's a cob - bless him) as he can muster. Each time he reaches one end of the field he skids to a halt spins around and flings himself in the other direction, each time he puts his head down and tries to get even faster than the lap before! It's soooooo funny! I love him!

Where to start.

He has a love hate relationship with cows. Will jump into a field of them, will either shy like mad at them or want to say hello if we see them out on hacks.

Will play his own music on a metal surface if a metal curry comb is lying around

Wees as a way of begging for his dinner

Sings when he has to leave a friend when out hacking

Is the proud founder of a number of unique evasions

Stomps his foot if he objects to something you're doing and wants to let you know about it.

Has a slight addiction to WKD blue and has been known to be a larger lout

loves anything that jangles his brain - i.e. a big rub on the forehead, you wiggling his lip, tapping his teeth...

I'd better stop now before this gets too long

Fudge squeals with temper if both Lady and I go out without him, he also can't whinney properly and trashes anything left within reach
laugh.gif

Lady unties herself and dislikes whips, she also does these funny little one legged bucks.

Both like people food
laugh.gif

attempts to untie himself when first tied up
doesn't like the majority of horse treats
shocked.gif

treats good haylage like its his hard feed and grumps if you go near him - it's mine all mine
tongue.gif

plays with everything within reach in his stable
gives groomies with his muzzle just for the hell of it!

absolutely terrified of poles on the ground (like trotting poles or single poles)... have tried everything...yet she will jump anything you put her at! (ground poles and all) ?????
laugh.gif
strange horse :P just lucky you never have poles on the ground in SJ or XC!
and she whickers (Sp?) when you come out of the tack room with her saddle! :P
and if you hold something up to her that shes scared of like a plastic bag or something...she has to give it her "lick of approval" before she can be happy around it

love my girl

Still got teenage daughter's first pony who is a shetland cross. He gets to roam about the garden some evenings and if we are having a bbq he will wander up to see what we have to eat that's tastier than the lawn.

So far he most likes tomatoes, cucumber, peanuts, lager, gazpacho soup with a hint of chilli, (which he drank very delicately off a soup spoon) and he eats bananas whole if you don't peel them in time. He will also wander up the lorry ramp to see if anything has been left in there to eat but canters off with child in tow if they try to load him to go to a show.

Spike uses a leadrope as dental floss. He moves it around his mouth to get grass out from behind his wobbly tooth. He also likes to suck polo mints.

I also think he feels he can only jump the fence around his field in one direction. He jumps out and then waits to get let back in.

haha that made me chuckle!

When you feed Hovis you have to leave him alone for the first minute otherwise he kicks out. After that you can do anything to him whilst he's eating.
He leaves his carrots for last and takes them out of his feed and puts them to one side.
He will play with anything in reach to get a reaction.
If bored with stick his head under the stable chain and pretend to be stuck. Cue lots of people madly panicking until i walk up and he goes into reverse pretty sharpish.

Oh dear i won't tell you what drink he likes i don't think you'd approve

He has rather annoying habit of knocking EVERYTHING and ANYTHING within reach onto the floor. Usually brushes now as we've got wise to this however it used to be mugs and plates etc but we don't put them near him now!

He likes to hold my schooling whip for me and follows me round the field backwards so I can scratch his bottom!!! Also runs backwards to get to the field shelter so he doesn't have to put his face into the rain
grin.gif

Loves to groom me when I groom him, and likes to take out your hair bobbles for you - anything he can get in his teeth really! Loves to have grooming/biting competitions with his best field friend, how do I know this??? They are constantly covered in bites - argh!!!

Tango likes to charge into her stable, whether you are in the way or not....
blush.gif

Canto likes to trash any item of clothing that might have been left within reach...he's currently at a posh eventing yard so I can have some training and this morning I got there to find all his neighbours rugs squished in with his mucky straw
shocked.gif
So I quickly shook them off and put them over a different stable and hoped no-one would notice!!! oops!

Ed loves to drink tea and used to get in a grump if I didn't bring him his own mug out in a morning when mucking him out.
He also used to get excited when I fetched his rug in a morning but if I walked past his stable towards his rug he would get really wound up and excited, but never make a noise it was kinda like him getting excited but thinking 'is she going to get the rug? is she, is she? then as soon as I woud touch it all hell would break loose of him wanting to play out.
He used to love the Jooster sweets but not the yellow ones.
If you don't push a gate open fast enough he will do it for you (handy when riding him).

Stylo can untie himself and then wanders around the yard.
He has a habit of trying to eat string (he ate 3/4 of his fly mask).
If you comb the left side of his tail he lifts it right up and pulls it right over to the right side of his bum. But he doesn't it if you brush the left of his tail.
He likes to eat my yard brush.
He eats whilst swinging his leg (mainly left) in the air.
He stretches by leaning right back so his front legs are stretched right out infront of him.

Ok - here goes

gelding - nods his head for a sweetie, and always pulls his lips back after a mint.
Chases other horses away from us when in field poo-picking.
Doesn't fully roll over, has to sit up on his bum and then go down on the other side.
Dances sideways in the rain
Eats spicy nacho crisps.
grin.gif

Shettie- paws the ground for her tea, when finished stands with both front feet in feed bowl

Cob mare...snaps her teeth at you when putting headcollar on, and pulls faces at every other living thing in the world apart from OH.

wierd bunch in general, looking at that list....

Czary (not mine but i know him just as well)

-Favourite treat is thai sweet chilli sensations crisps but i wont give him many so he gets upset
-Says 'please' by lifting a fore up and holding it there when he wants a treat.
-will eat a swede nicely until its half way through then just eats it in one and sometimes has to keep spitting it out so it doesnt get stuck, he's a numpty.

Anothther pony i used to look after had a major orange phobia for a long time after i fed him a satsuma and it squirted at him. He reared and then stood snorting at it in terror and wouldnt go near anything citrus smelling for about a year lol. He was also scared of water. He would stick half his nose in to drink it but it a single drop splashed him he would freak out.

A mare i shared used to love being scratched and groomed, she wanted to be scartched 24/7. in winter when i had to muck round she used to follow me round the stable nudging me to scratch her, despite often getting poked by the end of the long shavings fork. I used to patiently move her across the other side of the stable and 2 second later she was back next to me nuzzling my hair. Miss her loads, she was so friendly

Fred loves having his whiskers trimmed with scissors. His head goes lower and lower, bottom lip all droopy and if you happen to be sitting on a bale of hay or something, he will put his chin in your lap! funny horse.

also, i usually give him a kiss on the side of his face, in the soft part of his muzzle (where his side teeth are) and when he sees me approaching him he will put his face side on - expecting his kiss. really cute. all my friends laugh at this! you know when 'ladies' kiss the air at each other, its like that.
