What Strange Quirks Does Your Horse Have?

Ralph lifts up his hind legs when your grooming him so that you scratch between his legs, bit like a dog wanting his tummy rubbed, kinky boy

Just remembered another one....on a morning, gelding sees me coming into yard, then walks to back of stable and has a wee...I can hear him grunting and sighing whilst I do his breakfast, then he comes to the door for his brekkie. Just like a man eh!

lol what a bunch of characters the HHO horses are reading those.
we have a mare at our yard who will cock her hind leg so you can scratch her udder and belly button region.
quite scary when a big built 15.2 swings her butt at you and lifts a leg

my horse always shows me up in front of people. When he's on his own he's perfect he comes to me in the field. When there is someone else it's a different story..
He HAS to eat what ever i'm eating.
He hates polos..?!
he is scared of hedgehogs.. but will happily walk past a lorry or an evil dog..

Septre licks your hands for ages after having a treat, when having a pee she grunts and groans and loves having her udders cleaned- her top lip goes all funny.

Amber loose schools herself! If I put her in the school, but dont do any thing with her, she'll start galloping around, if the boys are in with her, she runs at them to get them to join in. When she is really stressed or excited, she bucks on the spot.

Jethro loves being scratched and grooms your knees, he always tries to give to a kiss when I give him a fuss. When he is loaded into a horse box, he bounds up the ramp like a spring lamb.

Binky likes to lick my back when I pick his feet out, lick my hands and sniffs my hair/ breath for ages when I say hello to him. He also whickers constantly when I'm with him.

mine likes having the base of his ears being rubbed-both at the same time.
will hold my hand and then each finger in turn in his mouth to lick marmite off but doesnt bite me

(tickles though)
is fascinated by velcro
doesnt like me wearing hats and takes them off (not my riding hat, he reckons I need that one)
is not scared of any sort of traffic/dogs/children etc etc but big rocks are not to be trusted.
likes to share my coffee in the morning

After eating mints, Merlin drags his tongue back through his teeth, making a rubbery tooth grinding noise.....

Always has a wee and a poo before he comes to me for his breakfast.... just making room!!!

Loves running zips up and down with his teeth.

Eats anything I will eat. Once he carried a bottle of coke all the way from the collecting ring to the trailer before he dropped it.

Cocks a hind leg so you can scratch his tackle

We only do this when no one is looking though

Is this wrong???

quizy undies him self and chews the lead rope, plays with my grooming kit his party trick is picking up a body brush and grooming his front legs daft thing and comet is terrified of donkeys hates them with a passion!!!

Picks up feed bucket when he's finished and gives it to you, if your not there he hurls it over the door at who ever is passing.

Will remove things from your pockets while picking his feet out.

Loves having his whiskers plucked/pulled out, but you have to grow them and wait till farrier comes otherwise he's a pain for the farrier!

Doesn't like men in his stable, women are fine.

Favourite place to scratch, just below his ergots on hind legs.

If you ride with a dressage whip when you stop he'll take it off you and whirls it around.

If you come to a gate whilst riding, say "push" and he'll open it.

I'm sure there are more but can't remember at the moment.

Not mine but one of our RS horses who is a complete character.

He likes to break away when being lead and canter around the field. If you stand still, he will gallop round you 3 times throwing his head around and bucking then, after about 10secs he will trot back up to you, drop his head into your arms and follow you calmly back to the gate. He just likes to show off I think.

He also likes to put anything and everything in his mouth. I heard the kids laughing the other day while I was putting up a jump and looked round to see that he had grabbed my jacket off the school wall while he was trotting round and was proudly waving it like a flag.

He has to be tied up when he is tacked up or he will take his bridle off and trample it into a specially laid pile of dung [gross]

In winter when he gets bored he will walk into the middle of the arena and without any fuss or messing quietly dump his rider over his head. I find this hillarious although it does make him unpopular with some of the children LOL

All of my horses have their own individual little quirks. My favourite is from my horse Jet who is my main riding horse. He is incredibly affectionate towards me and always licks my hand. He is so gentle and will stand there for ages and ages just licking. It's nothing to do with needing salt or anything as all of my fields have mineral blocks - I just think he was a dog in his previous life.

My other riding horse Ezzy, whom I've had since he was a baby, is incredibly cuddly and will snuggle into me and if I turn my back on him, he will come up behind me and raise his head over my shoulder and lean on me.

Our little pony Cloud has many quirks but my favourite is when she walks very confidently up to me and stops exactly at the spot that she wants scratching. We've had her for over a decade now and I know precisely what she wants and where she wants me to scratch.

I like all of my horses quirks; they are all nice quirks and none of them have any bad habits or mannerisms and they are all so gentle. I like my horses a lot

One of mine is spooky as hell at show jumps or XC fences if you just walk past them, however will never even look at them when actually being asked to jump them! He'll also often jump spookily over anything which he feels is too "simple" or small as he thinks there's something dodgy going on...

Another of mine has rather a dodgy quirk, if you can even call it a "quirk" - basically if he's in the trailer he will go ballistic if we take another horse out and leave him OR if he hears/sees other horses whilst in transit alone. Last time he went crazy when we had to stop in a car park mid-journey to drop someone (human) off, behind us happened to be a field of horses behind a bank. He only had to hear the neighs and he went nuts. Normally, we just try and drive off as quickly as possible (trying to get him to stand up properly and balance) however he's usually over the breast bar within seconds. Its actually petrifying as he is a very solid horse. Time before we dropped a friends horse off at her house before carrying on to our house which was literally a mile on. As soon as we closed the doors, it was 15 seconds before he got over the breast bar... however we carried on home! He's an idiot, he gets his front legs over and then wont panic, he'll just stand perched over the bar until we remove him.

My shetland will ALWAYS leave a bit of hay in her haynet which she will never eat, even if she's starving she simply wont finish the haynet, she'll only eat again if you refill the whole thing...
