Introduced one of the future school horses to the hose today and he was scared of it at first but instead of running/normal horse reactions, he crouched down as far as he I
could go, hind feet practically touching front and hid his head behind a door! Was hilarious seeing this 17h brick out house size horse trying to hide. (He was fine as soon as he realised it was fun to bite the hose and squirt us!)

So what strange and funny reactions have your horses had to things?

My horse is dead brave, nothing has bothered her lots of firsts since we had her and she takes them in her stride, until I got out the weigh tape. Cue terrified horse quivering in the corner snorting, trembling etc, yet she ignores a low flying chinook......

my boy is scared of the big White stones that people put on their driveways - he does that snorty, walk around whilst watching it in case it eats horses thing.
and he's also terrified of his football - he tries to jump on it (with all four legs) when it comes near him  speshull pony :D

The pheasant who is currently walking up to him every evening without fail and stealing his dinner. Reg, despite being a strapping 16.3hh horse, quietly shifts out the way and lets the pheasant eat the nice bits when it appears...

This same horse had an obsession with licking the jcb we had once and would watch it excitedly when it moved in case it was coming his way. Must have tasted nice :-D

We lost a pony this morn as well, 11h Welsh, found him eventually eating the 17.2 h warmbloods feed while the 'well hard' beast cowered behind him in the back of his stable. Daft hosses :-P

Mines terrified of people, yes you read right people...... Hes scared of nothing but if hes on a hack with a rider on his back he will literally freeze, go to spin and snort - as they get closer if you dont let him turn around he will just reverse..... but all of a sudden he realises its just people and will walk past! Have no idea what has happened as I was the only one hacking him and he never used to be like this. Is very funny and happens with everyone (hes fine if they come up behind/overtake its just if they are coming towards him).

Really liking pigs which as far as I can tell very few do! However terrified of an injured pigeon squab put in the stable next to him to recover a couple of years ago. Did have a thing about quad bikes and when they got one on the yard actually broke away from me and ran towards it even though utterly terrified...

strangest reaction i've had from my mare was today actually. twice i flicked a fly off her making contact with her skin and then feathers whilst taking off her bandages and she spazzed each time. i think it reminded her of what the electric fence feels like!

funniest reaction was when i was walking my mare around the green when we passed an elderly man sitting on a bench. it was like he suddenly appeared and so she did an enormous grunt and went trotting off. when he laughed she turned and snorted openly at him like 'come on then!' exactly how she does when i freeschool her and she fancies stopping. two hands bigger, tail up, nostrils wide and blowing through them very hard. it did make me laugh but in the end we carried on our way!
she did entertain people who were watching her antics

ETA: today she surprised me by having a normal reaction-when freeschooling her she was very polite, responsive and going around me in neat circles. normally its galloping around bucking and farting! very pleased with the girly :D

My horse is petrified of water....he will happily have a drink etc (thankfully haha) bury his head in the water bucket and chuck it around like a fish, but if i tip the bucket out near him and a tiny trickle of water touches his hoof he will leap about 50ft in the air and hide in the corner. Silly, silly boy.

& stinging nettles, we can go on lovely hacks he'll go past scary things like bin bags flapping in bushes, dogs barking behind fences, planes and helicopters coming down low (we're right next to an airport) but stinging nettles? GOD NO.

He really is bit of a wimp bless him :)

My bhoy loves tractors. He's like a little kid when he hears a tractor and tries to find it (wait, stop, we're doing a 20m circle here!!). I swear if he could he'd get into the cab and start driving! The other day I was bringing him back to his stable and he stopped and stared into the far distance... eventually I realised he could see not one, but two tractors at the far end of the field.

:D

This post has had perfect timing.

Onfriday it was my Oh cousins pre wedding party. So for a change I got dressed up, opted for maxi dress as it was hot.

As we were going out I knowing I would be out quite late, I thought I would put a haynet up to keep hi
Amused.

Well he did wonders for my ego, Levi took one luck at me screamed and ran away!!!!!!!!

Result oh and daughter laughing and pony refusing to come near me!!!!!!

That wil teach me for making an effort :D or dealing with stable duties in a maxi dress, I thought I looked ok !

Ha Ha Ha. Maxi dress story reminds me of our two Shetland Ponies. We got them at the beginning of winter. The first time they saw me in shorts this summer it was as if a new scary beast had come into the field! Snorting, running away, then charging back to have another look. When they eventually decided my legs were not going to eat them they spent a good 30 minutes sniffing at them, just to make sure.

Our 15.3 mare, herd boss and altogether "hard nut" is terrified of the new arrows they have painted on the speed bumps on the road!

16.2 chunky thoroughbred, who had two police cars with sirens and lights going race past at about 70mph the other day while on a hack without battering an eyelid, is scared stiff of the rain overflow which comes down the bank to the reservoir, even when there has been no rain and it is completely dry.
