..when in season?
- Mine squashes people against the wall and won't move away when poked
- She squeals when a leg aid is applied
- She will turn her head round and try and bite my foot
-she is obsessed with sniffing other horses dung
other strange things she does when not in season
-a cheeky head toss before any bad behaviour
-stretches like a cat - sits right down on her haunches and stretches her front legs straight out
odd or what?
PS since she has been on Hormonise the behaviour has improved

- embarressingly flirts with mares and hates geldings...

-does a silly head-toss when shes in a silly mood.

- has a major stop when she doesn't get her own way

- pretends to be nice to the geldings (touching noses) then she suddenly squeals and strikes out.

- out hacking is she doesn't get her own way (i.e going fast.) she'll go sideways or do a lovely passage. (nice to sit to

)

- pretend that after cantering everything is all just all too exciting and be very bouncy (even when we are schooling.)

- she'll try and attack the little show pony in the next door stable (who adores her) then a minute later be all nicey nicey to him!

she also does all of them when shes NOT in season! Typical Chestnut mare!

I have just bought a new mare (first horse for 18 years!) and as soon as she arrived she came into season. Although her nature is gorgeous she turned into a real floozie, so much so that as soon as we integrated her in with the other horses, the geldings were almost queing up to 'mount' her. Whilst I was having kittens, she seemed to be having the time of her life. I was just about to post a question asking if this was normal. Other forms of behaviour are as above, refusing to be groomed on the right hand side when tied up (she'll squash up against the wall and wont budge), lots of squeeling, lots of head tossing and pooh smelling. I also have been told that mares seasons at this time of the year are the worst as they are supposed to be at their most fertile - hope thats true, can't be doing with all this floozie stuff!

- rounds up all the other mares in the field into a little group that she can then stand guard over (even though they all hate this and try to run away)

- allows my friend's gelding to mount her one day... and then attacks him viciously the next because he dared to look at her as she walked past

- puts her ears back and bucks if you use a stick, even just a tap on the shoulder.

- treats lunging as her 'arabian stallion' routine and spins round on a 3m circle with her head and tail vertically in the air snorting loudly through both nostrils.

- walks off as soon as you put the bridle on (this drives me MENTAL lol!)

- pushes you and rubs her head on you when she wants her bridle off.

My mare is not really mareish at all when in season. Possibly because she's had 2 foals before. When she's in season now she just flirts and squirts at the other mares and ignores the boys bizarrly enough!
