I jump my horse quite a lot in the paddock by my house and also frequently at shows. Recently he's been improving really well and I'm going to start competing him at a higher level. Currently jumping anywhere between 90cm-1m30 at home and competing in classes usually 85cm-1m05 right now. What studs should I use with him?
My riding instructor (who used to own him) uses two road studs on the front shoes (one on the outside of each shoe) and two Jumping studs on the back shoes (again, one on the outside of each shoe).
What is your opinion?

I have stud holes in mine, also only on the outside. My farrier refuses to put them on the inside and to be honest, I wouldn't either unless I was riding in something like Hickstead was this year. He says that at the events he goes to the ones that pull off shoes are always those that have 2 studs in. I've seen many an injury caused by them and although you well get people arguing about balance, the idea is you shouldn't use them unless the stud sinks in.
I use supastuds which are great. They self clean the holes. I use the same size all round and have the small conical for harder ground and the dome ones for if its soft. To be honest though, I rarely use them, only if I really need to. I expect if I did more XC I'd use them more but I pretty much only SJ and most places up here are on surfaces. Here is the website
