What stupid rules do you have on your yard ?

Love my yard- no rules as such but it is easier as everyone is on full livery. Just assume everyone practices common courtesy;
- don't take others stuff
-keep your area tidy
-droppings out of school
-pay when bill is due

They aren't really too bothered what time you come up/ leave the yard, within reason, and as long as you are quiet and don't disturb them.

We have no rules as such, obviously we are expected to do certain things like pick up poo if our horse does it on the yard but thats common sense, other than that its all good. I couldnt stand a 'NO DOGS' rule, my old yard had that and i HATED it! I love being able to have my dogs follow me round the yard while i much out etc etc.

We have such good grazing, too good and good natural shelter it annoys me that we aren't allowed 24/7 turn out in good wheather yet he advertises 'grazing liverly'

We also can't strip grase but its in area of outstanding beauty and the fencing does look awful so I can understand that, but we do have overweight horses.

He was fourcing liverys to hand rake the menage over

Now hes been made to do it propely, I thought that was very checky as DIY does not mean we look after his facilties!

I wish my yard had a few more rules! E.g. "you can bring dogs, but keep them under control" as I do not appreciate trying to get a nervous, green horse over a new XC jump whilst another livery's dog runs around the jump off the lead as she hacks around the course.

In response to OP...

1. That's because your yard is probably on a water meter so it costs a fortune!
2. Y?ou yard is also probably on metered electricity - if not, think how much it would cost if all of you left the lights on everywhere all of the time. Switching lights off is just common sense - better for the environment as well as for your YO's bill (also think of it this way....she might start passing the cost of the elec bills on to you!).

3. RE. getting hay delivered. This is because it probably makes a mess of the yard, clogs it up, YO has to give you somewhere to store it all, plus YO will most likely be using the same person you would anyway.

4. We have the same no lunging rule about the outdoor school. Stops the surface getting tracks in it as most people just lunge round and round on the same circle.

I'm on the side of your YO I'm afraid!!

We did impose a ban on dogs after one livery's Staffy killed our pet chicken. We also have 3 GSDs

I only get crabby when the yard/feed room is left looking like a bomb site. We make clients aware that this is also our home and to respect it. Otherwise, taking into account health & safety, only rule is to enjoy your ponio

I'm not allowed to feed soaked hay. (Pony has lami at the moment and needs to loose weight but I'm still not allowed to feed it!)

Why on earth not!!! Whats the reasoning behind that ?

Thats what I don't get - I s'pose I shouldn't have titled it stupid rules as all yards have rules but some seem unreasonable when we are paying huge amounts of money for our hobby!

I have one rule on my yard -

* Do Not Throw Anything For The Cute Bouncy Dog *

[/ QUOTE ]

You have mentioned this before Tia, why?

Cute bouncy dog doesn't turn into a yapping monster does it?
My Shepherd just sits there, at your feet, not saying anything, just watching you...........and drooling. Really annoying.

No rules for me!! im on my own yard so i make the rules, if i want to go out and check the ponies at midnight i can, if i want to leave it a state i can, if i think that those particular flowers need moveing i can move them! i can leave my little old artheritic pony to wander round the yard at night rather then shut him in the stable as he box walks horrificly if you close the door on him so leaving the door open lets him settle.

Cute bouncy dog becomes totally obsessed with balls, sticks, stones etc and the more you throw for her, the more obsessed she becomes.....so much so that when the big black shepherd comes along to see what all the fun is about, bouncy-dog pins her to the ground and bites her nose! Naughty cute little dog.

we dont have many rules just:
<ul type="square">
[*]poo-pick school &amp; clear away jumps after use
[*]cover taps on cold nights (never gets done!)
[*]always have someone with you when you go jumping round XC course incase of emergancy [/list]

unforunately 1 rule we dont seem to have is about keeping muck heap tidy, people are soo lazy they dont fork up, they just dump their arrow @ the most convenient place for them &amp; all we have is it spread across about 30cms deep all the way to my stable door. me &amp; my friend try to keep on top of it but its not just our responsibility

We don't actually have any stupid rules... You're not allowed to lunge in the arena though, which would be fine, but the lunging pen is about 10 metres too small, too small to lunge over poles/cavelleti/jumps in, and really deep in the winter, which is usually when you want to lunge!

All the rest are just normal livery rules - Keep stuff clean, pick up poos from the arena, don't leave a horse turned out on it's own.

Only disapointment is that a couple of the liveries have decided we have to poo-pick the fields, which the YO told us we wouldn't have to do. It's a 10(ish) acre field, so it takes HOURS to poo pick

Muck picking is an important job!

It keeps the grass nice and helps keep worms down.

If you didnt muck pick you would have to muck out every day.
So whats the difference?

People that have horses need to take on the full responsibilities. We dont all have our own land so have to share at livery yards. That means compromising and being fair, everyone needs to pull their wait to maintain a good yard.
Good for the owners but especially their horses!
