What success have people had with Mycotoxin binders?

Have needed to put both my horses on a binder due to a significant amount of mycotoxin in my pasture. Both have been showing high liver readings over the past few months and after numerous tests/investigations we have decided to use a binder.

So what results have you had? Which one did you use? And how long was it until you could see any results?

Gunna put this in vets as well.

I've no experience of binders, only mycotoxins.

if it were me I'd be spraying my pasture with a suitable fungicide to eliminate rust in the grass, and generally upset all present fungi.

Mycotoxins are highly potent to the extent a pregnant woman eating an organic apple with the wrong load of fungi can abort.

I have been told that fungicides do little to reduce the onset or build up of mycotoxins - that said I am still having it done. You say rust? Sorry maybe being thick but what do you mean?

I am also digging up and re-seeding 6 acres of pasture in the hope that they go.

What else do you know or advice can you offer on mycotoxins?

I used grand digest (made by grand meadows) to help my horses gut and it seemed to help with mycotoxins aswell. It is designed to so not just luck. Hope this helps. It's not expensive either.

Haven't heard of this before- what made you suspect that the pasture was dangerous in the first place, what symptoms did the horses show?

Mycotoxins don't persist as would be denatured by frost and sun, however you want to kill the fungi making them

In old unimproved pasture grass rust is your prime culprit

This can be controlled by fungicides, reseeding the lay with a more disease resistant ryegrass and crop rotation (obviously probably not an option). You can also fertilize to make the grass more competitive

I'd want to get the pastures tested for mycotoxins to know what you are up against. That way you could target the treatment be it chemicals or a hardier more resistant grass mix

As a side note I infected wheat with fusarium for my degree dissertation!!

When my big horse was very sick - first time I'd posted on here I was feeding him a mycotoxin binder. I cannot remember what it was called but it came highly recommended by a friend who's got a Phd in nutrition etc. I will rustle through some emails and see if I can find the name of it.
