My old boy has Laminitis and is recovering. I have been looking at all the Lami feed balancers and im not sure which one to get! The ones i have looked at are
Blue Chip Lami light
Formula For Feet
Top Spec Lami Supplement

Any one have any good or bad views on these?

I would stay away from the big commercial brands as they often contain more filler than vits/mins required. I have been using prohoof but now also purchased happy tummy charcoal.

Equimins Advanced Concentrate Meta Balance has been specially formulated by the ECIR (Equine Cushings and Insulin Resistance Group) - it doesn't contain any fillers and no added starch or sugar! You do have to phone and request it though, it isn't available from their website and they do free delivery.

When my boy had Liver Disease I was advised to put him on D&H Ultimate Balancer by their nutritionalist - it was way too high in starch for him (13.5%), so I had to take him off it after 2 bags.

I also feed Superfix Lam Alert - not sure if it works or not, but no adverse affects so staying on it :)

Recieved this on email today:

Valerian which acts as a vasodilator, anti spasmodic and sedative. This makes it suitable for managing laminitis where the blood vessels in the hoof are constricted causing pain and lack of blood flow to the laminae. Its anti spasmodic effects make it suitable for a horse that has tied up and no vet is immediately available. As a sedative, valerian is one of the more powerful herbal calmers. It is banned for competition and can be tested for. It also is suitable for people to help with insomnia or for show nerves. As with horses 1% can get more agitated on it so it pays to try it on a day that is not important.
