Personally I feed linseed as a supplement and good quality forage/hard feed.

I also bathe regularly, hot cloth with oil and have clean rugs on the horses (helps their coat lie flat and not get full of dust).

Here’s a few random photos of horses past and present over the years, I chose these photos as none of them have been groomed prior, bottom right has mud on his head!

I notice that oil in their feed makes a difference. Mine has been getting linseed oil for a few months now to disguise the taste of his medicine. He's fleabitten grey with brown flecks so he never looks particularly shiny. It has made a difference to his coat though. I notice it when the light hits his coat a certain way. It's about as shiny now as it's going to get

Micronised linseed and groomed to death daily.

I groom for its own sake not just because I have to so even if I'm not riding etc she still get a minimum 20 mins full groom which we both thoroughly enjoy ?

A good diet! Shine from the inside. She’s unrugged (apart from a sweet itch rug now) I hardly groom her, she’s fed on pink mash so she can take her supplement. Can’t use lotions and potions on her as she has SI so I have to be careful. I always get comments about how shiny she is, this was the middle of winter. F5195A42-0E37-499E-BE93-94ADBA3E2ACD.jpeg

Rapeseed meal, my boy is so shiny I don't even wash him before shows, apart from his tail, face and white sock. Just a quick flick with the body brush and he looks amazing.

I am a fan of regular and thorough grooming. I groom mine almost every day, regardless of what we are doing. Making sure they have all the right vitamins and minerals in the right quantities also helps.

Minerals balanced to forage and a touch of linseed seems to sort MrT out. This is his winter coat, I'm hoping his summer coat comes through even better this year.

I hardly touch the poor boy with a brush. Rubber curry comb the mud off and skim over with a dandy brush mostly. I might put some effort into his summer coat this year though.

(After years on greys I'm very much enjoying a shiny chestnut!)

I feed linseed lozenges which the local feed merchant sells in small bagged up bags, if that makes sense. It's only 1.29 for 1 KG. It really makes a difference in her coat, that and a good brush, you can literally see the oil in her coat.

Grooming is the key ingredient. I also feed Keyflow Keyplus, eCalm and Naf Oilovite - all are supposed to promote a healthy shiny coat. Last one is a new add due to the amount of time spent in the stable this winter due to the rain so is most likely a bit too soon to judge its success.

Fat natives get a spoonful of micronised linseed daily while coats are changing but when I had the big horses they had copra meal in every feed you could feel the ones that had had it as coat was soft and shiny

Another fan of micronised linseed here. Really noticed when I stopped feeding it, so back on it and shiny horse back. I do groom every day too.
