What supplements/herbs do you feed and why?

D has Benevit for general health and ExtraFlex HA as a preventative to keep her joints nice and supple.

Have heard that feeding garlic on a long term basis can be bad for your horse but can't remember why.

why do they add tumeric? just out curiousity quite interested in this sort of thing.
I feed seaweed as i have read about a lady who has done a 10 yr study on it and she firmly believes that it can help prevent grass sickness, something which i am petrified of since a yard i worked at had 3horses die from this terrible sickness. I think if it can help great if not well its not doing him any harm and i believe it is supposed to benefit there feet and skin also. believe its anti ulcer to. although i know you have to be careful not to feed to much due to iodine levels.
He also gets the top spec balancer wich i swear by. x

Seaweed and NAF Five Star Magic all year round.

The seaweed helps promote a healthy coat and skin, the Five Star Magic is a calmer which I find quite effective.

Merlin has just gone through detox treatment (always give him detox every winter).

He is on a performance plus supplement now

Will go onto a joint supplment when back into full work and full fittness.

HorseFirst Relax Me - calmer for busy horse
Feel Good 30 Joint & Relief - fab for suppleness and pain relief for arthritic old boy
NAF Pink Powder - all are on it for digestive ease
NAF Pro Feet - horse needing help with better horn quality

Garlic granules and Kossolian. The Kossolian is a good iron supplement as well as general vits and mins. I give below the recommended daily dose though as it's good stuff and my horses obviously feel very well on it!

I feed garlic - especially in the summer as it helps with flies and I'm feeding a bit of mint at the moment - I think it's good (and only natural) that they have a bit of herbal variety in their diet. In the wild they would browse an extensive range of vegetation...

I also pick him nettles and cleavers in the summer...

Horses arel on Equifeast Daily Essential Care, and Aviform Gold joint supplement.
One on clivers as she can get swollen back legs, one is a poor doer so gets Fenugreek, he looks amazing this winter and is on less hard feed.
Pony gets seaweed

Jack has Top Spec so he gets everything he needs plus Suppleaze Gold for his fractured fetlock and has a tincture of Comfrey, nettles and hawthorn for his navicular and DDFT.

Settlex for his ulcers.

He was on some herb mixes from silverliningherbs.co.uk to cure his digestive ills, but they have done the trick and so now we are back to just the settlex.

Baby has top spec and my big horse has biotin (I will never stop feeding this as when I did after 4-8 weeks my boys hooves cracked and crumbled) and benevit all round supplement- may change this to the 365 complete though.

I have two on joint supplements advised by my vet due to old injuries one of them also on Pink powder due to a not so good digestive system which has done her a lot of good, oldie is on a veteran supplement and everyone has garlic with general supplement during the winter which is specially made for the type of land/forage etc we have in this area.

mums horse and the shetland are on the reccomended amount of baileys lo-cal as their only hard feed (fatties!) so dont need much else, the shetland gets nothing and mums boy gets NAF superflex, and in summer Global Herbs rig-calm as he can be a randy sod!!!!

my 5yo gets seaweed for vits and mins, and for his coat as he is on just under the reccomended amount of bagged feed and also has added oats, suppleaze gold for joints (not that he has any issues but this is a good value supplement and i like to work on prevention not cure), and NAF vit E & Selenium as he has a high oil diet so needs that balancing out.

A general vit and min supplement from our local feed store but can't remember the make. He's on this as he's a fat little bu*ger so doesn't get recommended levels of the nuts he's on.

Blimey I think mine have too many supplements, compared to other people!
