What technique do you use to Mount ?

I drag horse or pony to anything suitably robust and of sufficient height to step on. They are so used to it, they don't really care what object it is - I have used tractor wheels, put horse in a dip in the ground, fences and gates, concrete bollards - you name it...

Oh and leg-ups when they are on offer.

Now Now! Cantering on spot with head held between legs is rolkur

LOL at post.

I stretch legs out after doing girth up, saddle sits ok straight off, for my ease I get on from either a block or wall, or get him stood in a dip, if not I can get on from the ground if absolutaley necessary, saddle doesn't slip much as it's a good fit.

Put saddle on calm horse, attach girth to one side of saddle, shout dad for help... wrap the girth slowly round belly of now not calm horse whilst dad hangs onto head. Attempt to do first girth buckle up whilst horse on two legs, once done walk him forwards whilst dancing on the spot, going backwards etc. Attempt to do second buckle, whilst horse repeats behaviour and dad still hangs on (think your starting to get that the horse doesnt like being girthed!) walk him round yard again. Once comfortable with girth on, walk round yard doing up one hole at a time until tight enough. Then stand horse by mounting block, or fence (depending if out hacking or schooling in field). Walk him away or he will try and do that whilst i'm getting on. Walk him on a circle back round to mounting place and get on. Takes me about 10-15 mins on a good day and 15-20 mins on a bad day between getting him tacked up to getting on.

I get on my pony from the ground - but he is only 14.1.

I ride 3 other horses - all between 15 - 16hh and get on them from a mounting block / chair / fence what ever else is handy!!

I always get on from the mountain block or leg up.
If i need to get off then back on when hacking i find a gate or something i can climb on.
Hate getting on from the ground!

although even with my gammy knee i can still get on a 17.1hh from the floor!

Mounting block unless I'm out hacking and there's nothing I can step on

This is the key advantage of owning a midget 15.1

although I have got on a 17.2 from the ground, I thought I was going to snap in half trying to get my foot in the stirrup!
