What the heck is this??

She has a dipped back and is only £500, someone might take a chance on her. My friend has a TB with a dipped back, and it's tricky to get a saddle to fit him, but apart from that he's fine.
However, "All ny saddles fit fine on her" - yes, of course they do dear.

It happens, and the horses can go on to lead a normal life. My friend's horse is a young racehorse reject. The photos aren't great, in some her neck looks longer than others, but it also looks poorly muscled as if she's spent some time riding with her head in the air.
She's £500 though, poor thing, so it's not as if they are offering her for sale in competition with horses that don't have problems.

I think these types of posts are cruel and very naive. To purposely post other peoples adverts, then have the nerve to criticise the horses conformation. Yes it has problems, but not everything in life has the good fortune of being born 'perfect'. Would you go out of your way to post a picture of a person with similar conformation issues and have the cheek to title it... 'What the heck is this??'

LOL. Personally I see a bit of a difference in humans and horses. ;)

"Very pretty and showy" Um.... what?

I'd be a bit wary about her back at that age too but at £500 i hope someone will take a chance on her and she ends up with a nice home. Correct work and feeding could go a long way to improving her generally i think, as she seems to be a bit underweight and has muscles in the wrong places. I do think she has a very sweet face though, bless her.

Well if her saddles fit as well as her rugs so obviously do then I pity that poor mare. Horrendous rub marks on her - so easily avoided!

Poor girl needs a knowledgeable home and a bit of tlc by the looks of it.

Its amazing how this can be disguised under saddle. I was one of two clear rounds in a big working hunter last year and the other horse was gorgeous. It was only when it was unsaddled that it became apparant he had a dipped back, very similar to this mare. Even then, it was a close run thing. Obviously it didn't impede the horse's jumping or way of going and under saddle you didn't notice a thing.

Last time someone posted on this ad there was a very interesting discussion on swayback genetics.

Not something i would purposely buy but ones mans trash is another's treasure...

This advert was already posted a couple of weeks back and there was lots of disscussion on sway backed horses, it might not look pleasing to the eye but in fact many sway backed horses go on to lead very good competition lives, you will find a lot of sway backed horses in racing, there was also a top showjumper who a a very bad swayed backed.

i do not think it is fair to put peoples advert on a forum hoping people will ripped them to death, esp when you clearly dont know the facts on sway backed horses and how in most cases it does not effect them...!

Think before you post in future.

There was an article a year or so back in a magazine about a horse with a very similar back, (They called him Quasi Modo if I remember correctly) He was a part-ex from a dealer or something like that and turned out to be quite a talented little show jumper :) I will see if there's anything about him on the web, they had problems fitting a saddle, and had one made. Was very interesting!

I would be devastated to see a pic of my horse criticised on a Forum.

Especially if you have not given permission to do so. It reminds me of 'yard mentality', where cliques giggle and b1tch because something doesn't conform to what they consider is 'normal'. Pathetic!

she doesnt look a bad little type at all to be honest and is correctly priced IMO
yes sway backed and not the greatest of confirmation..and saddle may be an issue but no need to post such an awful nasty post on a public forum. I would be devestated and would definately want to persue it further...I suggest MODS remove this

What this poster says is true.

Perfection is obviously what is sought but unfortunately few of us, horse or human, achieve it. Poor mare is not the best example of the breed obviously but that does not mean she can not lead a useful life.

I would be quite upset if someone posted an Ad I had put up and was very critical of it...

Sadly in the horse world there are far to many people who are TOO quick to judge...

Its rather strange how horse ownership can turn some people into the nastiest of b1tches on the planet!

And no before you JUDGE i'm not calling Santalover a b1tch, just making a point.

I don't see what is wrong with this post?

I have never seen a 'sway back' or a 'dipped back' horse before, I knew nothing about them - now after reading this post I know a lot more, it's informative, not bitchy in anyway .... that is what this forum is about - isn't it

If I had a horse that was a bit different than the norm, I wouldn't mind these types of comments.

I for one have learn something today :) thank you OP :)

It's a very strange shape....

And I hate to say it, but she could be the sweetest thing ever but I can't imagine it would be good for dressage or jumping (its' shape works against her)....so that also rules out xc.....

As most of you have said, getting a saddle to fit and properly fit....is likely to be expensive....she'd require physio......I can't imagine she moves nicely from the ground or from the saddle....

But as with every animal, she deserves a loving home, and I hope she finds one. xoxo
