My thoughts too! I was just sat here in shock - thought that was really really stupid and dangerous to be honest. Could have gone quite badly wrong in my opinion and Jesus how old was that appaloosa??! Think very foolish to put people who can't/never ridden through something like that. I wouldn't even fancy doing it myself!!!

Have just seen the footage of the prats going into the jungle on horse back.....

What the FU**?????

I am absolutely gobsmacked that they should think it's a sensible idea to put total novices on horse back and then get them to cross a strong flowing river. ITV get real you idiots, thank goodness none of the horses got into serious problems, it was far too close for my liking.

Think this was another case of producers thinking "oh won't this be hilarious" but not actually thinking through. Firstly novice/non riders on horse - ok so I'm sure the horses are used to that. Swimming across a river, again I am sure the horses do it alot BUT the difference was the celebs did not know about it so had no chance to prepare and I am sure they don't normally have dingys and camera crew 'parked' in the river probably across the horses normal route so no doubt this panicked the animals a bit.

Felt very sorry for the guy getting his foot stuck - thinkhe was lucky that horse was partially stuck under the tree! I am sure there were plenty of people on hand BUT it was still silly, especially when celebs are swimming in the water and pulling horses out from under trees. I wouldn't fancy that one myself when i horse is panicking a bit you don't want to put yourself infront of it not knowing where it's front legs are!

Very silly I feel and as someone else said, why didn't they just bung some neck straps on and tell the celebs to hold that and let the horse find its own way across?

Think they're quite lucky noone got injured to be honest. Mayeb they won't try that one again eh! Lol

What is it with 'I'm a Celebrity' that they seem to think it is ok to make animals the entertainment?? From eating little grubs and worms and things (yes, they're only grubs and worms but they are still living creatures and their consumption shouldn't be treated as light entertainment), eating kangaroo testicles (how would we feel if a bunch of people from another culture filmed each other gagging and laughing trying to eat something that we eat and saying how disgusting it is) and now this.
When is it going to cross the line where some has-been two-bit celeb actually has to kill something?

I thought it was irresponsible and dangerous. I have sat on a horse that has swum but in a fast flowing river it could have been disasterous.

I have just seen the clip and created a Horse and Hound account to comment. The horses in this clip look completely distressed, I think this is so wrong!

How utterly utterly stupid!
Aside from the danger to the horses having heavy (Jimmy White), unbalanced riders hauling on their mouths whilst they were trying to swim, if I was Jimmy White's agent I'd be looking at sueing the TV company. It was very clear to me that he was wearing heavy soled walking boots (that are totaly unsuitable for rding) and that is the reason his foot got stuck. They were very lucky that his horse stood still after he fell off. If it had bolted, it could have dragged him under the water and drowned him.

Surely eating live grubs and worms and spiders and the such like is killing them? Only they are being eaten alive and not shot, knifed, gassed or whatever. No difference in my mind. Unnecessary entertainment in which animals are made to suffer just to get the viewing figures. I wont and dont watch it.

i have just watched it and i thought it was disgusting!! they were yanking its mouth so hard im suprised they didnt pull its teeth out. only one rider wasnt thrown of and the guy who got his foot stuck in the stirrup could have brocken his ankle. in a riding school u wouldnt make a rider who had never ridden before jump a course of 1.60m or make them do an advanced dressage test and this is just the same. i think this is irresponsible of itv and who ever lent the horses is a fool. it really disturbed my and my horsey friends. and it should be taken further. however i would have laughed to see katie price do it though on her top dressage horse "jordans Glamour girl"

Yeaaah, but they are just grubs aren't they...dont have cutesy faces! And I dont recall reading 'fantastic mr cockroach' when I was a kid.

Although I agree it wasn't nice to watch in the slightest...I find it hard to believe there weren't experts very close by and that they were completely unprepared and alone. Just a thought, don't shoot me!!

Seriously people. There will have been someone on hand in case of disaster. I'm sure those horses do that almost every day of their lives. And to those of you who think eating grubs etc is cruel... presumably you're all vegan? Probably best to stop walking on grass etc, you might squash something living just under the surface. Come to think of it, don't turn your horses out either; stop wearing leather, (and use synthetic tack of course)... never heard such hypocritical comments in all my life!

I don't watch I'm Not a Celeb so Please Put me in a Rainforest and Make Me One on the basis that it's crap, but may I suggest you all stick to cartoons in future to avoid giving yourselves nosebleeds

I think the point was they didn't seem to have prepared the 'celebs' for it, they had a dinghy in the water that actually seemed to be blocking the horses' exit (or maybe it was there to direct them who knows!). It just looked rather haphazard and badly done. I don't personally think the horses looked panicked as such but I think due to the cameras/crew etc around it would have made it rather different for the horses than was normal.

I just think ITV was daft as it potentially could have resulted in some injuries. I can just envisage in my head some 'genius' deciding what a funny thing it would be to have the celebs do and in reality it wasn't. I think they were lucky noone got booted by one of the horses or drowned! lol

The person who hired the horses for this can't have much sympathy for his animals. Yes, I agree a neckstrap would have been a good idea, to stop those dismal yobbie "slebs" hanging on the poor things' mouths. They just looked a bunch of dithering idiots and the horses had more sense than the lot of them, IMHO. (Fortunately my PCs sound has packed up so I couldn't hear the comments!)

I think it's a very poor example to set, animals being used as commodities like this. Why don't they stick to cars or motorbikes?

Having ridden a swimming horse in similar circumstances whilst working in the USA personally I think they were mad to let them do it. To stay balanced and guide your horse whilst not socking it in the gob is not easy and even experienced horses still need steering. Not fair on the horses and incredibly lucky that horses and riders escaped uninjured. It was stupidly dangerous imho.
