Tried a new bridleway last night, our yard backs onto it, hmmmm overgrown and seemed to be relatively unused. Can see why now, came into an opening and a BL**DY FAST TRAIN came whizzing past my boys head, no exaggeration it was about 4foot away! Cant believe he stood stock still and stared; with me wrapping my legs around his tum as calmly and convincingly as possible to convey to him "this is not scaring me"!! There is a gate leading ACROSS the track and apparently a lovely ride continuing the other side but I did not dare try last night, nothing to stop him turning right or left onto the track though. Hmmmmm. Some not very nice images in mind at bedtime.....

We've got a bridleway near here like that. There are gates either side of the track (which you can't open from horseback, you have to get off). I have ridden it once, with my heart in my mouth, but coming home you have to cross the same track on a roadcrossing and my horse got an electric shock from the line which was pretty frightening for both of us

. Several horses round here have got shocks from this line and all the railway folks do is put a sign up saying Horseriders must dismount - wtf

See, I'm always going on about what a wonderful horse I have and we've had sooooooooo many high speed trains go passed and the closest we've been is about 20 feet away, that could be less actually, we were at the barrier as it came down, and he stood and looked at this train. But we've also been going over a bridge when one has gone underneath, nothing and under a bridge when one went over. Loads of trains round here. He doesn't care about anything except me!!!!!!!

How lucky am I??!!

As for the overgrown bridle path, think I'll have to start a thread about that

I've emailed and phoned my bridleways officer at Wiltshire County Council and it doesn't make a jot of difference. I even got knocked off my horse by an over hanging tree branch which looked like twigs and it scratch my saddle to pieces

. I know its not his fault, there's just no resources put into keeping the bridleways up together AND land owners don't keep them maintained because they don't want horses on the land!

That really gets my goat!!!
