What things put you off adverts?

After seeing my local dodgy dealer put a load of terribly spelt, badly worded and full of *******s adverts online today, it got me thinking... What things put you off adverts? Even if i didn't know who the horses belong to, i wouldn't bother ringing up as i think badly spelt ads full of cliches just scream 'desperate'. I much prefer simple ads with a couple of decent pics.
 
No pictures is an instant now for me unless it states email for more pics.

Another for bad spelling as well as I think what sort of person is this that they can't even spell. I'm not to worried about bad grammar unless it really is awful.

basically means i wouldnt bother even contacting them even if i loved the horse because i probably cant afford it anyway!!
 
I really really only hate one advert - so much so i switch channels when it comes on - that big fat slobbery "Wonga Man"
Yuck - even thinking of his fat ugly horrible but so so smug face makes me cringe - hate it :mad:
 
Pictures of a horse not under tack, no ridden pics. I saw a few today of 5 year olds that have been turned away or in barns all winter, carefully left alone, ready to be brought on/backed. Struck me as a poor thing and that they'd been ignored, basically.
 
ah horsey adverts whoops - ok fo rme its when you see kids stood on the back of some poor horse or pony that looks clearly well sad - heartbreaking .
Also hate it when oldies are advertised - theyve done their job, cant do it no longer so need to go anywhere, even for free - horrible
 
Bad grammar and spelling, it just comes across unprofessional and makes the seller sound thick. If you have problems with grammar and spelling due to dyslexia etc then get someone else to write it for you!

Also bad riding in photos and stupid descriptions. Well schooled (horse trotting round with its nose tucked in to a false outline, clearly tense, or going round with its nose in the air), scopey jump (scraping over 1m with rider up its ears). Just all sorts.

Also when people write them as if they are the horse, just ugh, no. 'My name is Tim...' etc etc, no Tim, you are a horse, you cannot write or even understand the English language. Would the owner like me to phone and speak to Tim, or will someone else be available?

Also people who are far too descriptive 'Bob is good to hack out, good in traffic, not too keen on tractors but he doesn't do anything, he just looks, might step to the side, if the wind is in the wrong direction, sometimes he snorts, etc etc' slightly OTT but you get the idea.

Argghh I hate this! Its so annoying why would anyone think that it would sell their horse?
 
when they say the horse has potential to go far or amazing scope and then has a tiny picture of it popping a cross pole it seems every horse today has the potential to go 4* according to adverts

It must be personal preference, because I prefer an ad that has the horse stood bare. No tack. I prefer it to an ad that is cluttered with lots of tack. Also I hate it when there are just jumping pictures. I want to see the horse!

Personally, I like one jumping, one flat, and one stood square, side on with no tack. Videos are a bonus.

I also dislike it when the rider wears tracksuits, jeans or wellies to ride. I just think, make an effort!

I don't care how badly spelled or worded an advert is, or how dreadful the photo is.

I don't give tuppence as to whether the horse is muddy, or standing in a stall that could do with being cleaned. I'm going to see the horse, not the stall, the yard or the owner, I'll make a judgement on the horse not whether the advertiser can string words together in a pretty sentence or can crop a photo.

All I want is a basic description, age, height, breed, colour, gender and if they tick some boxes then I'll get in touch and get some better photos/more details, then I may go and see the horse if it still sounds as if I might be interested in it.

How many decent horses are missed by being picky about ads I wonder?

Strange; many professionals I know prefer just that sort so they can start in their own way and not spend time undoing what someone else has done.

Me, I want to see the horse, not the tack or it jumping through hoops; just the horse and a basic description, same as Enfys I think.

E, no, I wouldn't have been put off, it's the sort I would want to see and looks like you found a very nice pair.

POA - usually means totally over priced...

Not a novice ride (with no explanation) I'm not a novice but I don't want a bad mannered rearer that bites so I tend not to go near these.

Has had (Any illness) I'm not into buying heart ache.

First to see will buy -- HOW CAN YOU KNOW THIS??

AND worst of all - comedy photos (Someone stood on the horse's bum, doing head stands etc etc etc) especially at the expense of other photos

Oh and I'm not keen on but would go to see a horse 'hunted in Ireland'...

There are probably loads more but those are the ones that spring to mind
 
I'm with OP.
'Dodgy dealer speak' really puts me off as do photos of kids standing on the backs of horses/riders with no hats etc.
I prefer to see untacked photos, preferably one from each side. I certainly don't want to see the horse in its rug -what is the point of that? I couldn't give a toss what tack the current owner rides in - it is almost inevitable that I will change at least the bit.
I do want to be able to read a straightforward description - gender, age, colour, height, what the horse can/has done. I'm only interested in horses that are good in traffic as we have to hack along roads.

HOYS potential.......really bugs me - seems everyone seems to think their pony will go to HOYS yet when you look at the photo it will clearly not!!
