What time shall I get to Burghley to avoid queues?

For the last few years I have left at crack of dawn (ish) to travel up A1 to get to Burghley before the bulk of traffic as can't stand queuing all round the little roads. But this year can't do that, so wondering what time to aim to get there so that most of the traffic has been through the gates - 11am perhaps, or is that still busy?

Also I usually go up to the Stamford roundabout and turn right as I like that car park (nearer to shops!) but wondered if that is best avoided because of roadworks.

I have to be there at 8.30am. I shall be leaving the yard at 7.30.

wellies, long coats and waxed hats are the order of the day tomorrow. had the hat and the wellies today but also a coat that turned out to be not so waterproof....
