Lol. I would love to know what they are charging for Totilas ATM

A TB x Welsh would be lovely

Well to start with Totilas would be wishful thinking as not standing at stud for the next 4 years at least and even then the semen will cost the earth!!! The Welsh D crosses really really well with a variety of horses. For example, my 4 yr old is out of a Welsh D mare and by this stallion:

This is my mare and if you scroll down you will see her foals by the same stallion (including my 4 yr old)

ohhh i didnt realise he wasnt up yet :\
wishfull thinking... i do really like stanhopes didicoy and have seen some of his youngstock they are really nice but unsure what they will be like with welsh d

It depends what you want from the foal and what character the mare has to a point but my favourite cross would have to be a thoroughbred with a very good temperament. My old TB mare was put to a Welsh D and the result was something that is now an Advanced dressage horse which can jump the moon!
If you wanted something with a little more bone, you could always use an Irish Sport Horse (ID x TB)
I personally wouldn't use a warmblood as they can be such a mixture of type and breeds, you wouldn't be able to guarantee type so well but I admit to not being a fan of them so possibly bias; you're sure to get some to recommend them! If you wanted more 'fire and presence' you could always find an Arab to suit her too, that is a nice cross. It all comes down to what you want to breed and your own mare, her strengths and weaknesses. If you want to use S Diddicoy, just make sure your mare has a very good temperament; from my own very short but sharp experience, that was not his best aspect to pass on but then again, many have lovely useful animals by him so perhaps the two I have first hand experience of, both from decent and good charactered mares whose other stock were very sweet natured, were the exception to the rule.
Good luck with your choice, it's a huge one!

It depends on what the mare is like?
If not too chunky I would say ISH and hope it toned down the stubbornness of the welsh, even if mare is not stubborn the breed is and therefore could throwback.
If she is chunky then look for something ISH that produces slightly lighter young stock.

PS I do love my welshies but looking for a new horse now and this one won't be welsh lol I'm too old to argue anymore

I'm going to be putting my wlesh d mare to a t.b, he isn't that far off looking to Tolitas. My mare is jet black and i was hoping to put her to a black t.b,wanting to breed an eventer. Was too late deciding this year but can't wait till i have a baby Hannah,it will be gorge if it's anything like it's mum and a temp to match too i hope!

One of my first breeding sucesses was a welsh x arab (my own stallion, loaned the mare). Lost track of the little fella some years back as he was sold on and the last owners never registered him. His dressage and jumping were brilliant and he was very showy as well. Also the stamina came through so sponsered rides were real fun! In my opinion a good cross.

Just to say our Diddicoy horse had a fab temperament, threw a lovely horse out of a heavy irish mare. He carried the master and whip of one of the biggest hunts in the country for years as well as being a successful showjumper!

welshxtb or welshx arabs often turn out nice.
not seen any welsh xWB so cant comment...
i would think about how you want to foal to turnout, evaluate mums weakneses and go for a stallion based on that...

Have a look at the following website:

http://www.welshsporthorses.com/

They breed Welsh Section D mares to TB stallions and they are very nice. Have a look on the blog for pictures of them competing!

In my experience good section D's tend to cross well with most breeds. When I bought my Section D mare she was in foal to a heavy and very coarse coloured stallion of no breeding but she still managed to have a stunner of a foal (black, not coloured). Sending her to a warmblood next year - can't wait!

Agreed. There's nothing to beat a TB on a Welsh Sec D IMHO - and that's coming from an Irish Draught breeder! BUT - you need to pick a TB of suitable type and temperament - good short back, decent bone etc.
