What to charge for looking after someone’s horses?

On the usual hourly rate, I would pay £10 per hour for a helper, unqualified, to do poo picking and things which don’t involve working with the horses like washing buckets etc.

I’d pay more for someone who has some equine qualifications or professional groom experience, and would handle horses - groom, clip, rug, turnout, hold for farrier and vet etc. £15-25 probably, depending on responsibilities.

I’d pay even more for someone to ride and/ or for transport horses. £25- £35 per hour hour probably.

I’d expect insurance for anyone on site.

Thank you for your advice. I do a bit of a mixture, typically poo-picking, mucking out, feeding etc but also handling horses for bringing in/out, changing rugs, lungeing and riding if the owner prefers. I have plenty of experience but no official qualifications so I think that puts me somewhere in the middle!

If you are handling the horses, lunging and riding then I’d up the rate to £15 at least.

I have to have house sitters for 3 dogs walked 2x a day plus 2/3 horses out in field so just poo picking . Precovid I generally pay £50 to £75 per 24 hrs. I'm happy for them to do the work and then leave the property during the day but like them there is overnight. I would think 60/65 per 24 hrs would be reasonable for what you are doing .
Thank you, it’s really useful to know what other people charge/pay.
