Just curious as a sort of friend has asked to rent my 7.5 ton daff and me. To transport 8 horses in 3 trips total milage 150km.
Not sure what to charge or what the going rate is. I was thinking about €200 plus fuel.
Any one have any experience with renting trucks & driver and prices ?

Not sure on rates but do make sure your insurance covers you for transporting horses which aren't yours. There's a lot of idiots on the road!

Ditto this. Also technically I think you will need an operator's licence. Also unless are horses are small you are likely to be overweight with three on board.

To be honest it will be a hassle for you and probably cheaper for your friend to rent a lorry and do it herself - she can rent a 3.5 ton lorry if she can't drive a 7.5 ton.

IIRC, Armas is not based in the UK, and therefore traffic and licencing laws may be different.

I know somebody who charges an initial cost of £30 an hour, and then 80p for every mile travelled, if that is of any help for you to work out your price if you convert it to euros. Although if they are a friend, mates rates and all that...

Thanks for the advice as I am located in France UK road legislation does not come in to it.
I was just curious as to price, they have approached me as they know I have a lorry. The distance is not great only 60km round trip. 17 Iberian's to move and one Fresian ! Thats 6 trips It takes 2hrs of my time each trip. Its not work for me but neither is my time free. I have just had to shell out £600 to fix the ramp on my lorry :(

Uk road legislation might not play a part but I assume there are also laws around the transporting of animals in the whole of the EU so best to check.

I would work out how much it actually costs per mile in fuel then add a little for wear and tear on your vehicle plus work out a cost per hour you are happy to take for your own time. I suppose it would depend for me how well I knew them but in all honesty if I were them I'd just find a transporter who could do it in two trips.

Uk legislation is entirely based on the EU rules so the French ones ought to be very similar!!! - enforcement may be another matter....

I would recommend they contact one of the big horse transporter, you could only take 2 at a time without being overweight and if you are taking more than basic fuel money you would be breaking the law as you have to be a licensed transporter. Not worth it and very exhausting anyway!

A big transporter will probably cost less as they could go in maybe two loads on a giant lorry, the horses would be much more comfy as they have self levelling floors air con etc. Eric gillies are the best ones in UK, they might well know of a French equivalent they use when doing international journeys, worth ringing them to check it out.

Thank you for the information, however total travel time for horses is 45mins maximum in a cool climate thus air conditioning and self levelling floors are not important. My 7.5 ton daff can take 3 with out a problem.
We are not talking super large hunters just 15'2 Iberians.
I was simply curious as to lorry rental costs.

They want to use my lorry and me any money given would be taken as a gift and to compensate me for my time. However I need to suggest what gift I would like above the cost of the fuel :D

Why don't you suggest a donation or gift of about 20 an hour for your time and then get them to fill the box back up. Lorries are expensive and im sure lots of people help friends out. It's 20 an hour to hire a 3 horse box where I live, minimum 5 hours

I'm across the pond from you and I charge $1 per km plus $30 per hour (although I waive the hourly charge at times). I am licenced and hold full commercial shippers insurance. I'd think around 1 euro per km would be about right.
