hi, had some harness in storage over winter, got out today to oil them, have them oiled. but the brass fittings are like green gunk on them, but be something coming of the brass. what do you use to clean them up quick. some one mentioned brown sauce, anyone every tried this.

thanks

Brasso (its a brass cleaner)

this or a metal polish. If it is grunky green then you might need a tooth brush or something on it. Be careful not to get it on the leather though as it can mark and be tricky to remove.

the cheap and cheerful and IME just as effective alternative is tomato ketchup. Supermarket own brand is fine.

Basically apply it to the brass with a clean rag, coating with a thin layer. Allow ketchup to dry. Use an old toothbrush to clean it away then a clean rag to buff. Leaves beautifully clean brass :)

sorry meant something in house as dont have brasso. cant get to shops till next week, but was looking for something now. forgot to mention homemade mixture, will try tomato keptup. thanks all,

just done this, will let you know tonight how i got on.

I would have said brasso, the wadding type, but in your house, ketchup. Or coke works, soak end buckles & soak a rag & wrap round any in the centre of the leather. Just avoid the leather!
