I have to go back to work full time as I am getting divorced. I have always works p/t to fit in with children and school and this has worked well (or so I thought) for all the family including my dog.

IF you work f/t, what do you do with your dog? Mine is a border collie and I wouldnt want to leave her more than 4 hours alone and nor do I think its fair on her.

I am trying to find a dog walker or someone who would look after in her in the day time, she doesnt need vast amounts of exercise but just like to be involved in whatever is going on.

All ideas welcomed! Thanks :)

I'd be tempted to get another dog for company for starters. Our two play among themselves if left alone. The dog walker is a good idea. My dad lives next door, so lets ours out a few times a day.

If not, could you pop home at lunchtime or pay a schoolkid to walk them after school?

If you can afford it, I would definitely say try to find a reputable (recommended by word of mouth if possible) dog walker, who could come in halfway through the day and give your collie a good walk.

There are also some dog daycare places dotted around the country, which may also be an option (but probably more expensive).

If neither of the above is suitable, is there a possibility that you could get home at lunchtime and give your dog a break and some exercise?

Thankfully I work from home now, but in the past when I have worked full time I have been up with the lark to walk my dogs before work, came home at lunch to walk them and give them a toilet break, and then taken them out again as soon as I have got in from work. It is exhausting, but has to be done.

I hope you can find a solution to work for you and your collie.

Our lab goes to the in-laws during the week. My FIL is house bound so pooch is great company for him while MIL is busy.

If the OH is away I pay a dog walker to walk Boots during the day. He isn't bothered about the exercise as he is a super lazy greyhound and gets walked with me twice too, but he likes his Auntie Emma (dog walker) and gets to hang out with Dylan (walked with him).
Plus I know he's been checked on as she does his feet/water/gets treat. She is a god send :D

On the days where OH cannot take the dog to work with him, I go home at lunch time to let him out. He’s tucked up this morning with three Kongs and BBC news. To be honest if he was at home alone 5 days a week he’d be a pain in the backside in the evenings. Thankfully OH runs his own company so can take him with him a few times a week.

I would look at getting a good dog walking in two or three days a week, or ask around friends that are home during the day (that have dogs) if they would have yours too for a bit of cash.

Rather than a dog walker, it sounds as if your dog would prefer to spend the day with a dog sitter in their own home and have company, as well as being walked. Not sure where you live, but in my area we have 2 excellent doggie creches which accept dogs from 7am and must be collected by 6.30pm. Regular users get discount. Some dogs love this lifestyle, others aren't so keen, but worth investigating...

I have 3 dogs of my own and a dog that spends her days with me during the week. they pay 10 per day and she istreated the same as mine . If they have any problems she stays overnight. She is dropped off at 8 and picked up at 6 . She stays with me if they go on holiday and they pay 15 per 24 hours at their suggestion. We love her to bits and she is bff with my rescue dog .

Thanks for all replies.
As luck would have it I think I have found a lady who does border collie agility who will have her in her home while I am at work.
Thats by far the best thing for her, and it saves me a lot of worry too!

Thanks :)
