Another horse at our yard is really sweet ( i would love him if my mum had the money to keep two). The owners do not really care about him much and all the rest of the liveries are left to look after him. Three days ago the yard manager bought him in because it was so wet and didnt want to ruin the field. He had no hay and they have not ordered any in for months so we had to use ours. All the hard feed is rotten so another very kind livery gives him some of hers. The family came down today and just put their last bag of shaving on top of a dirtly bed and left! They usualy just come down every few days to make sure he is still alive and go again, the poor horse is always wanting attention and they ontly time i saw him in with them they were calling him names i could not repeat on here

What do you reccomend we do? The livery who gives him feed and generaly looks after him is going into hospital soon so can't look after him. She tells them what everyone does but there is never even a thanks. What is even worse that the mother is a qualified riding instructor

difficult one. It is very distressing to see a horse being neglected, especially on your yard but if everyone keeps on feeding it then it will become the expected thing by the owners. It would probably be best if the yard owner had a word and if she ends up looking after the horse for them she should charge them for her services or ask them to leave. Unfortunately there are some people out there who just should not have horses. I personally wont let a horse starve but if I ended up taking care of all the neglected horses I've come accross in my time Id be running a sancturary!

I agree just do what your doing, dont get involved, because if you do the owners say "your poking your nose in" i am saying this from experience, there are a couple of horses at our yard, not saying the owners are neglecting them(well they are in my books but i go up 2 to3 times a day)since their horses have been out for the summer we rarely see them, one of the horses is my horse feild freind so i always give him a carrot and check him over each day,but the other is a maare and i never go out in the mares field,i know the YO will check them but it is a DIY yard so at the end of the day it is down to owners,i get so cross with people some just shouldnt have horses !!

tbh we are ot going to give the horse anything, its probably sounds mean but my mum finds it difficult enough having to have paid alot in extra hay, feed and bedding while pony was on box rest and its not fair for her to donate things for this horse to...its not our horse and not our responsibilty although he will get the odd treat as many do! I just feel sad that hes not getting the attention he deserves especialy with winter very close

It just really shocks me how someone who is a qualified riding instructor can treat a horse in this way!
