What to do next with problematic horse... About at wits end :(

Just got back from vet. Slightly ulcery, have some gastro guard. X-rays fine for front feet. Right hock showing some small changes, and was very slightly lame on it. Back wasnt looked at nor ultra sound done

Is your vet unaware that PSD is often present with hock spavin? Why did he not ultrasound the proximal suspensories, did he say???

I would be quite miffed if I had sent my horse in and not got what was asked for?
Unless of course there was a blinding obvius cause, which for your description there doesn't seem to be?

They wanted to see if the ulcers were causing the napping problems.

Also said they wanted to nerve block the hock too see if that's where the lameness comes from before doing anything else. And they didnt have time to do it today.

They have said to take her back in a couple of weeks if the behaviour persists. They haven't treated the hock with anything yet.

Does anyone know if you can get nerve blocks done at home? Would save the hassle of dragging her to the vets.

I've often had nerve blocks done at home. If you have the facilities to have a lameness work up it should be fine (small hard area to do 10m circle, school to lunge in).

I imagine it depends from case to case but the one time I had hock nerve blocks the vet wanted me to ride to see if I could feel an improvement.

Yes we have lots of nice concrete areas, road planing car park and a school. I suppose the only advantage of taking her to the vets is she's more likely to throw a tantrum somewhere new, as opposed to being at home. Might ring them up and see if there's any difference in the price to doing it at surgery or home.

If I take her in I will have to pay for another load of transport.
