So as per my thread on query about vetting...where do I go from here??
My vet is coming out Friday afternoon to assess any lameness on some hard, even ground. The vet that failed him has said he is sure horse is showing lameness in a small trot circle on offside fore but is saying the surface the was performed on is irrelevant??
Anyhow he is fully insured etc and I will be investigating this further.
My question really pertains to what do I do if the lameness is not fixable?? He hacks out with no bother...but will it get worse?? (How long is a piece of string I know) Harsh as it may sound I simply cannot afford to keep him as a field ornament but obviously Im jumping the gun here as we need to know more. Assuming this vet is correct and he has contracted heel (is that the right term??) whats the long term prognosis for this??
And should he continue to be hacked etc now or rested?? He showed absolutely no other indication of lameness during being turned in tight circles at walk or during flexion tests. He is otherwise fit and healthy.

Until you have a diagnosis there is little you can do other than speculate and worry, is the buyer still interested as it may help with any decisions to be made, they may still want to go ahead if nothing is found of concern on Friday.
The fact he was ok after flexions is positive, the chances are it is just poor foot balance that can be sorted with a decent farrier, or just some bruising that combined with the contracted heel is making him feel a bit sore on uneven ground.

The fact you are insured means you can find out what is wrong and make an informed decision and so can the purchaser who may well go ahead once they know what is going on, he is not expensive so could be worth taking a gamble that he will come right fairly quickly.

Thank you...this is my gut feeling too in all honesty. The buyer has been amazing in fairness...I have been so lucky. She is a lovely lady and she has really fallen for Charlie. We have been discussing it all at length and she is sticking it all out til we have a more definitive answer on Friday.
Im just stressing about it all but, as you say, we can only speculate at this point xx

ETA: He has not shown a single sign of lameness at all up to now so am hoping it was just the ground/footing x
