Hi all so the boys suspensories are breaking down again so there is no way he can sustain a level of ridden work. Gutted is not the word. There is a pony on the yard who is not ridden very overweight but a nice sort. Would I be mad to have it on loan and see what we can do. He is safe to hack etc as my friend rode him for a while until his saddle was condemned! I have money to buy one but it's the keeping of 2 on a yard. If I loan I can subsidised my incone from my savings. Anyone had any experience of similar scenarios?

Sorry to hear about your horse. Sounds like a great idea to me as long as the owners are nice people. I couldn't loan as I'm very set in my ways so I would be in conflict with any owners!! Could you just ask to ride initially, maybe there would be no financial contribution required then ?

Yes except he has no saddle and they can't afford one ATM. I can get him one but do I want to commit if I am not sure. I like to be in control so would want full loan and would get everything agreed in writing. He is huge ATM but I think there's a nice pony hidden under all the far!

If you buy a suitable second saddle that is saleable brand you can just resell it later .
You might a little less sometimes you get might even get a little more .
It’s sort of like a cheap rental .
I used to do it a lot when had more throughput of horses I often bought young horses a suitable second hand one at first eventually I would buy them a new one once they where topping out .
Some had more than one cheap one as they grew up.
