I posted last week about a little pony we bought in foal in february i was told she wasn't broken. Anyway, 1 lovely filly later (now 5 months) we decided to see what the mare had done. We lunged, roller and pad, saddle, bridle rider leaned over all no probs (but she does turn in and stop on right rein and needs constant flicking with the line to keep her going even in walk) This weekend my daughter got on walking round in hand fantastic

. However, give her any length of leadrope and she stops dead, no amount of leg will move her. A tap with the schooling whip moves her but she will stop again after a few steps. She is one stubben little pony, very obviously dead to the leg, I don't want to keep chasing her so where do i go from here?

HELP

I would presume that she had'nt been broken and she just has no idea that legs on means walk forward so as a start I'd keep her in hand for a while and work with the rider that legs on get her moving on reitterate it with a voice command plenty of transitions...then I'd get your rider on the lunge start with the left rein (the good one) and same again but you will have to make sure leg aids, voice command, and possible encouragement from the leader are all done at the same time...hopefully the penny will drop

Or perhaps totally uneducated? She may also find working in a school very difficult if she is small, unfit (obviously) and carrying her 'baby' tummy.

Why not take her back to basics - avoid the school, and work her quietly and sympathetically to improve her education and fitness?
