What to do regarding Pin Worms in poo

I wormed my mare 4 - 5 weeks ago with panacur. The next day she had a few upset droppings, and a mucky tail, so I assumed it 'thoroughly cleaned her out!?' Not sign of any infestation in any of her droppings.
2 weeks ago, I collected her companion pony, whose owner said she had be wormed (not sure what with) within the preceding month.
Both horses look and act healthy, have clean bums and tails.
2 days ago, my mum did the poo picking for me, and found 2 cowpat style droppings with pin worms. Yesterday there were none. Today, again there was one cowpat style with pin worms and one normal nugget style poo with one worm.
I've yet to determine who is responsible for producing the offending poos, but above all, I want to know what to do regarding what wormer to use and do I worm them again so soon after they were last done?
I've read that it is very difficult to worm the hind gut - where these suckers hide out, but I assume it has to be done and other people have the same issue!

Any help much appreciated.

My horse had pinworm and my vet recommended panacur guard (the 5 day one) and it did clear it up, thank goodness

Yes, agree with panacur 5 day treatment. I bought a a horse with unknown worming history that rubbed it's tail so we suspected pinworms. My vet recommended the panacur and he's been fine since.

Definitely Panacur 5 day EG. I used it for my mini Shetland recently, and he had pin worms. Not seen any since and the wormer helped to clear them out!

It's an old remedy, but seems to work - try adding a little (veg based) oil to the horses feeds for a few weeks, starting with just a few mls and increasing slowly. Horses don't digest all of the oil and the undigested portion lubricates the bowel (think how we are after a particularly greasy meal!), making it a slippery surface for worms to cling to.

Apparently (I'm not an expert on wormers) some of the modern wormers are absorbed before reaching the hind gut, so pin worms can remain after worming with certain types of wormer.

make sure you wash rugs etc as well. if they are in they will need walks scrubbing, I just used dettol.

Pyrantel based wormer as it gets through to the bum end of the gut where the pinworms are. I also got some ivermectin wash from the vet. Worm, wash bum & under tail for a week with ivermectin wash, 2nd week wash bum & slap on generous quantities of Vaseline, then repeat 2 week cycle. Pin worms can be stubborn little beggars but am at end on 2nd cycle and it looks to have cleared them.

Pinworm can be difficult to shift but the good news is that they are a very minor horse worm although unpleasant to look at and can cause irritation.
Panacur 5 day is a good choice. It only lasts about 6 weeks anyway so definitely not too soon to worm again. Double pyrantel is another good choice and if you use that you will also have given a tapeworm treatment, so maybe the best choice.

Otherwise cleaning everything is really important, from the horse to the environment. We have a pinworm info sheet available by email if you contact the lab (Westgate) and will be happy to send it over.
