what to do with her on firework night?

my new mare isnt very keen on the local that does alot of shooting, she gets very upset by it so i cant imagine she is going to be to happy on firework night, is it best to stable her so she feels safe on turn her out, i am just worried she will run through the electric tape and do herself damage.
she might be completley fine! but with how she jumps and has her eyes on stalks when the local is out shooting iv just got this feeling.
what do you do with yours?
 
My mare has been out for the last 3 or 4 bonfire nights and she's perfectly happy. I feel they will be happier out and can see what's going on than shut in a stable and can hear but can't see what's going on? Will other horses be out too?
 
Well I usually get mine in. There is a big organised display that's not very far from me, the pub usually has a display and then there are a small group of cottages that often also have their own 'party'. The cottages are the worst as they tend to angle their rockets away from their houses and they end up imbedded in my paddock. Whilst I think mine would *probably* be ok with the other fireworks I would imagine a rocket landing next to them would cause utter panic. Just seems safest to stable them.

I'd maybe get yours in this year and see how she copes, then you'll know what to do next year. The chestnut in my siggy was the worlds spookiest horse, but would stand watching fireworks very happily so its hard to know how they will react!
 
I fetch mine as one year I left them out and had no paddocks left within an hour, all horses dripping wet after galloping round and whole row of fencing taken out and quite a few cuts on one horse, not worth the risk I don't think.

I stable them with the radio on quite loud and although they are not happy when the loud fireworks go off the most they do is strut round the stable shaking their heads.
 
Bring mine in, where two hang over the doors and watch, and the third cowers in the back of his stable. I usually sit with them, keeping them company with a bottle of port! When it's all over (Two local mega displays, very pretty!) I turf them back out.
 
What if a rocket lands next to the stables though? God forbid....

I always leave mine out, they can see whats going on, be a herd and run to where they feel safe...and run away from any stray fire works if there should be any. But then it all really depends on the horse, mine prefer it out but thats just mine :)
 
Mine are in at night, but ask your vet for some Sedalin or there is some new stuff out begins with a D I think and dose her up, before fireworks start. Have 2 dogs that I have on sedation now building up for next weekend, as they are petrified of the noise, it worked last year.
 
We have a big firework display over the road from the field. Ours are left out. I always go up to see how they get on and all they do is have a bit of a look and then carry on grazing. They don't take that much notice to be honest. We have shooting and low flying jets here all the time and I think they're must be just used to loud noises. I think they'd be more stressed if they were in a stable and couldn't see what was going on.
 
We leave ours out til after bonfirenight/week. Guess it depends on your yard but as someone already mentioned, I think I'd worry more if they were in and couldn't see what was going on, pus what if a stray firework did hit the stables? That would be horrendous.

I have a new youngster this year so I don't know what he will do but, considering the others don't bother about them I hope he'll follow their lead.
 
if your mare is unhappy with shooting then i would keep her in as she could get really wound up and gallop into the fence and harm herself. at least in the stable she is contained. i just give mine a bit extra haylage for the night so theyve got something to focus on while the fireworks are going....
 
Mine will be out with her herd I always think better out than in.....BUT it's a big field with no electric tape. If shooting upsets her and there's electric tape (which I HATE) then maybe in with some calmer and loud music.
 
thanks for the replies guys. iv not had her long so dont know how shel be but the others are usually fine so hopefully shel follow suit!

my friend who is a veterinary nurse said about dogs and people sedating them and it makes it abit worse for them as they can hear the loud noises they dont like but they cant run away as they are lightly sedated. im not a vet so couldnt tell you if thats the case or not but it makes sense. im lucky that my dog isnt to bothered but my cat will be clinging to the wall all night!
 
Ours will be out.
We have a view of all the fireworks for miles around and the nearest ones tend to explode just on a level with us. Fortunately no-one whose fields border ours will have fireworks near us, although we do occasionally find spent fireworks in the field. We think ours will be safer outside, just in case a stray firework hit the stables.
None of ours take much notice, even the new(ish) pony seems to be taking it all in her stride. But then we too get shooting, low flying aircraft etc. If we were going to bring them in we'd have had to start tonight - I've seen loads of fireworks and, bizarrely, several people dressed in Hallowe'en costumes.
 
with my babies, i will be moving them to a quiet yard for the weekend and then move them back - not worth the risk.

personally i think personal fireworks should be banned, only display fireworks at regualted venues. aiam sick of seeing evil kids/teenagers hurting animals with fireworks. Im not bothered about people kicking off 'well i wouldnt so why should i be prevented from having fireworks' i am however bothered by the increasing lack of humanity amongst the younger generation esp toward animals ( see the boy kicking the puppy story today) Disgusting.

General public cannot be trusted hence remove the threat/danger.

i appreciate people may not like my viewpoint but but once you have been through what we have perhaps you would change your mind.

some on my yard are out some are in, mainly just because that is there routine anyway. mine is in as but my loan ones stay out. iv been up some firework nights but YO is always around if a problem occurs but my stabled one just stands at back of his stable and eats, as do the others who are in the ones who are out just enjoy an excuse to run around but none are overly bothered, saying that they are about 2 miles from the nearest houses that have fireworks!
