In Febuary I had to get this horrible operation done on my mouth (won't go into all the gory details) but had a check up today with ortho and she said I need it again as it didn't work :(

Basically I'm not allowed to ride for a week and because I can only eat baby food for about 4 weeks afterwards I literally havn't got the energy to ride. I just don't know what to do with the horse whilst I can't ride.

He gets bored of lunging if we do it more than twice a week and we can't free school as he jumps out the arena. The only people who I consider good enough to ride him are too heavy for him and we haven't got the money to send him off for schooling.

Obv it won't be me lunging him etc as if I get hit the mouth it will hurt a lot! He's not the type I think I could turn away for a while either as when he comes back he will just be bored and excited.

Any suggestions with what I could do, or anybody nearby want a 14.3 for a month in the spring? :)

*bump* If anyone know tasty baby food that would be helpful, must admit apple gets boring after a while. Ic an't eat ice cream or soup either as they are too hot/ cold :(

how about things like tinned spagetti, can u suck? (no rude comments :D) bread with cheese spred on.. things like that. milk shakes also.. sorry no help on ponio.. but i had a horrid op on my mouth and coulndt eat.. managed wine though!

Nope last time I couldn't eat bread, and definatly can't suck :p as its the roof of my mouth and it gets very sore! I can have milkshakes but have to warm them up fun fun! Anything too cold/ hot really hurts.

I'm sure you could blend food to a consistancy you could eat? Instead of baby food? You could eat most things i suppose? Do you like porridge? Ready break? How about rice? You could have sauces blended into rice for diff flavours? Does your horse hack out ok, could you take him/her for walks inhand? You could tack up with loose side reins? Would anyone at your yard long rein for you? How about inhand work, leg yeild, half pass?

This is what I want him doing but I won't be able to do it because if he hits me in the mouth by accident it will hurt a lot :p I might have to beg the mum to come up and help.

I didn't think of blending stuff I might try this and see how it goes I guess it will just look really gross :p

My parents used to just blend whatever they were having for a meal instead of buying me baby food. Aparently i thought roast dinners blended were heavenly, although i've not tried it in over 20 years lol. I think if it were me, i would be blending stuff with gravy, sauces etc. Risotto? Bread soaked in gravy or soup til it goes really soggy. I like that anyway :D

I would say longreining or in hand walkies with the horse too. Use a lungline if you walk out, so that if he has a silly moment you can step back out of the way.

I might try some of it now so if I hate it I know now rather then when I'm starving :p I got one of these monty roberts lines and a dually halter so I could walk him out in that so its not as long as a lunge line but longer than a lead rope, and he doesn't play up in the dually :)

I think that you might be pleasantly surprised by your lad if you turn him away for a few weeks :). We've had to turn various ones away for various reasons and they've come back fine :). Nothing was too daft, not even Dizzy. It's good for them to have some time off, and it would stop you stressing that someone wasn't doing it right, etc. :). That was what I was like anyway lol.

Hope the op goes well and you heal quickly.

I would probably just turn him away, then you can concentrate on getting well without the worry of him knocking you. Sounds awful, you're being very brave & sensible.
