Wondering if anybody can advise..

I lost my horse a month ago and have 34 Danilon Equidos 1.5g and a 10ml tube of Sedalin left over, the vet can't take them back and I presume I can't sell them on the open market as they are a POM. Is there anyway/ anywhere I can sell them legally?

Not worth masses but seems a crime to bin them at £35ish!!

Wont vet take them back to destroy, like Docs do with old meds? You could keep them and perhaps someone at your yard might need them in the future ?

It would probably be best to give them to someone you know or see if they will buy them off you but I would be careful selling them to someone you don't know as they are generally prescription only :)

I'd say give them to a friend.
(Can I be your friend?!)

Seems silly to waste them
I understand vets can't reuse them, they could destroy if you really have no where for them to go.

Technically - you have to hand them to a licensed pharmacist for destruction.
Practically - pass them on privately to a freind.

Selling a class A drug - and Danilon is class A - is an offence. If your freind chooses to meet the prescription cost you paid then that is a matter between the two of you.

I'm sure we have all had prescription painkillers left over at some point or another and just hung onto them or passed them to someone in pain. This isn't much different. But don't advertise them on ebay or anything like that!

Oh... and if you can't do that please don't put them in a bin. That would be tantamount to handing them to your local drug dealer to make money out of.

I'd keep the danilon - you never know when you might need it and it could save you money off your next vet bill. I think it usually has quite a long use by date on it.

I'd only let a friend have them if their vet lets them routinely have these.

My vet is happy for me to have a box of bute whenever I need it, but I wouldn't ever let anyone else have any, unless they where in the same position as me.

either give to a friend (both are handy things to have in a first aid kit) or not sure if they could take them but what about a horse charity as a gift to them?

I used to get bags of meds sent in with bodies.. They would be left in the fridges and I'd pop them all, powder them and flush them down my mortuary sluice..

I'd keep them though personally.. I have a full box of bute and danilon in my first aid kit..

Danilon is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory. Very much like ibuprofen only with some nasty side effects in humans. I can't see too much of a market for it. I'm also pretty certain that most drug dealers don't search bins for their wares.

I was in exactly the same position, having lost my mare, and the vet took back the box of Danilon and refunded the money, was very nice of them I thought.
