Ahhhh Please Help .
I've come to a grinding halt with Solitaire and just haven't a clue how to progress

ATM she's on full livery with isn't ideal as I think she's forgotton who I am

but with the yard being 40 minutes away I cant have her on DIY or even Part ATM .
I can't find a decent trainer that will visit her to bring her on further and I know that I shouldnt have really bought her as she is just to much work at the moment but I can't bring myself to sell her cos I know I have something special

and I cant bring her on past what I'm doing now which isnt a bad job IMO but is just not enough .

So my options are :
a) Take her off Full Livery search for somewhere closer and turn her away for a while
b)Send her for professional schooling and try again after
c)Carry on the way I'm going now and her being a glorified hack forever
d) Sell her

e) Loan her out ???

Don't want sympathy but just want someone to talk some sense into me

Plenty of alcohol / chocolate if you've got this far

I know how yu feel!! I have very talented horse who could do far better than me ! I have faced facts that till my confidence comes back ill be stuck with my dressage ( which dont get me wrong i do enjoy!) and my happy hacking when really i am desperate to be sailing over big (or small!) fences!
I think that moving her closer to home would be a good start and as another member suggested to me when i was stressing bout bringing my boy on further was that it has got to be fun as well and beating your own riding up isnt going to get you anywhere. Im sure progress will happen unfortunatly from my experience everything does have a stage where progress steadys of or sometimes even seems to go backwards, then i find a small change will suddenly push you forward again! What are you struggling with??

hmmm depends, what do you mean by a grinding halt?

Sure there's someone down around here that can help you out? Once you've sold her, you've sold her, IMO best to leave that until you've tried everything else

They do need alot of work at that age....I would either move her closer so you can continue with her education, send her to someone who can continue her education, or, if you can see your situation changing, turn her away until you can do her justice.

By grinding halt , I mean theres been no progress at all from when she came back from my friends . If I just wanted to keep her general happy hacker sort it wouldnt be a problem but she really could do alot better , (than me tbh)
I bought her because a close friend was going to bring her on etc but personal circumstances have lead to her being unable to help. So really for the past week or so ive not had a clue what to do anymore

i'm sure you'll be able to find a good rider locally (or an instructor) who can help you both to progress. sometimes it just takes a while to find the right person. where are you in the country, i'm sure someone on here could recommend someone maybe?
nothing wrong with being a happy hacker, or just getting someone to do a bit more and compete her... i'm sure lots of people would jump at the chance.
best of luck!

Your horse doesn't know it could be doing more and that you think it's wasted hacking out. What about part loan? If you could find an experienced, talented rider, it would help you with livery costs, get her doing more and might stop you worrying. If you send her to a professional you will still be in same position when you get her back so might be a waste of money just at the moment?

Find somehere closer, on livery,Not ridden, just daily care
Have lesson or two a week, enjoy happy hacking, and bring her on very slowly.
Spring will soon nehere, find somewhere she can live out in summer, and you can ride weekends and a couple of times on weekday evenings.

To be honest if you havent got the time to school her then you havent got the time to compete her- so what does it matter if shes not improving? Just enjoy what you do together without the pressure of trying to 'improve' i fell into that trap this winter... and now im just going to enjoy my horses and have fun... they dont know that they could be doing more!

At the moment I don't have time to ride her due to me doing my exams etc etc . In June everything will have changed and she will come of full livery and i'll have more to do. Just at the moment I advertised and didnt have a single phonecall about part loan / or an instructor wanted . She being brilliant at the moment and really doing well being challenged and asked to do new things .
I'm going to advertise again a to see if I get any response and just keep hacking her out to keep her ticking over if no replies I will re think again

I know its hard but get your exams over with, you have plenty of time then to work on the horse, both you and she will improve then, main thing at the moment is those all important exams, good luck with both horse and exams dont worry about either, things have a tendency of working themselves out. (can you tell i am a grandma)
