Clipped boyhorse about 10 days ago. For the first couple of days he wore a fly sheet, but this has rubbed him on his hip bones.

It has sort of left a bit of a scabby area on both sides.

Unfortunately, every rug I put on him now seems to rub.
I left him naked for a few nights but it is a bit too cold now. Tonight I have slathered loads of Vaseline/aloe vera on to try and stop the friction.

What else can I do? (I have tried an under rug - also rubs him...:()

lol - I haven't tried a nylon lined rug, but I have tried the lycra bodysuit/under rug thing.

I think the poor boy's problem is because they have been rubbed once now they will be rubbed by anything.

I feel bad for him, and I am a bit embarrassed that he will be scabby when I go out this weekend.

I look after an old horse with sticky out hip bones that his rugs rub, I put sudocream on the sores, it helps but as you say once they are rubbed it is going to keep happening now.

I was thinking of cutting up one of the bossy bibs that stop rubbing on the shoulders and sewing the material in the hip bits of his rug .... but I don't 'do' sewing ....!
