I have an extensive collection of old horse training book - some really good and too good to jump dump.
Is there anywhere I can donate them to or has anyone sold them on line ….. though that does seem rather a faff, I would rather give them away as a job lot!

How old?

Generally speaking books from 60s-90s aren't worth much because so much had changed. There are some books that have stood the test of time and are still in demand eg Training Showjumpers by Anthony Palmaan amongst others

There are some relatively modern books from 2000s + that have gone out of print so prices have sky rocketed eg Joyce Harman saddle fitting books

Older books especially on specialised subjects like hunting, breed specific, side saddle and first editions can have quite a bit of value.

Your best bet if you think there is some value is to check on amazon and ebay to see prices. If its crazy prices that generally means its out of print and there's a demand for it.

You can list books for sale on here too in the regional part of the forum only (hho rules).

FB marketplace and local horse pages.

If you had a riding school close by they might appreciate the books for their clients or if there's a charity place/rda they might like them for a car boot sale.

Just be careful. I have far too many books but when I sell any miss them them end up buying more copies ??‍♀️

I had a load of old horse training and veterinary books and I gave them to the chief trainer of one of the local pony club branches. They weren't a particularly wealthy branch and she was so grateful for them. I told her that some of the information was a bit out of date, but she said she was happy to pick and choose what she told her members during training. She said they would also find it interesting to hear the way things used to be done.

Books from the 80s-2000s with generic information won’t go for very much at all. Older books, as in pre-70s, may go for more than a few quid, but will take longer to sell. Then there’s a few books with more specialised information that can go up for a decent price especially if out of stock on Amazon.

You might want to split the collection between books of value and not worth much books, and sell them individually and as a joblot respectively.

I’m also a bit of a collector of various types of horse books so if you’re not too far from me, I’d be happy to take a good few off your hands for a decent price.

There is Oxfam who sort books and sell the rarer ones on line, but there is also a larger Amnesty international bookshop in the next borough which welcomed my academic text books.
If the books are collectable, e bay is another possibility.
Not all old books on riding and horse training are valueless. I paid quite a lot for one or two and a third which I ordered turned out not to exist.

One more thought - if you wanted minimal hassle, you could put them up as a joblot on freecycle.

Do you have a link to this? I can only find the publishing site.
I have not got a link at mo but look up Our old pony books on facebook. Its run by Jane Badger and lots of old pony books for sale.
