What to do with old horsey magazines?

Sorry a bit of a strange one but wondering if any of you have some bright ideas?!

I was clearing out the other day and have decided to get rid of all my old horse magazines as they were taking up too much room. I've got almost every issue of PONY mag from 2004-2008 and almost every issue of Horse and Rider from 2008-2011.. :eek: I really am a hoarder.

Is it totally crazy to think that perhaps if I put some on ebay people would buy them? Perhaps grouped per year? Or am I being over optimistic and really the only place for them now is the recycling bin?? :o Thanks!
 
I no some places take them
The college I went to in Preston had one very very large collection of horse mags they were get for doing research in, maybe a college for some thing would take them of your hands? :)
 
There might be a collector out there somewhere..... give ebay a go maybe?

Personally,........ i'd shred the lot and use it for my horse's bedding :D I am a compulsive shredder, if it's not hidden or filed it WILL get shredded. My parents save me all of their papers and magazines, and bring up a feedsack full once a month, and it all gets mixed in with shavings for my boy's bed. Saves so much on bedding!
 
When I was little my horsey next door neighbour gave me years and years worth of H&R and YH. I think I've still got them stashed away at my mums house actually! Maybe somebody young you know might appreciate them?

When I was little I sometimes used to be able to pick them up for about 10p each from jumble sales. I'm suprised I didn't wear them out I read them so much! Def ask a local riding school or anyone with a horsemad son/daughter, you will make someones year!
 
If you can't sell them, take them down to your local hospital.

The times I have sat in a waiting room with nothing except Practical Woodworker and Yachting magazines to keep me occupied! I'd love to find a few horsey magazines there!
 
Ages ago I put an advert on free cycle and some lovely lady had them for her child who was apparently horsy mad! More recently I put a post on one of the Facebook groups for a load of trade and H&H's and they went within minutes - there will be a home to appreciate them. I also did this with my husbands landy and shooting mags - same person wanted them for their husband and friend!
 
either sell on ebay, online website, car boot, local newspaper.
give to nearest riding school or ask around at any livery yards if they want them
recycle at nearest recycle point
use to line any wet shoes or put under dirty wellies etc
or finally burn if you have a natural fire/log burner
 
You must not dispose of these old horsey magazines. They have served you faithfully for many years and now deserve to be retired to a warm dry cupboard. To sell on to someone else, offer free to good home or simply chuck away is moraly, ethically and HHOy wrong. Do you have any idea what might happen to them if you did. Someone might try reading them and put too much pressure on the binding.
If they have seen better days then you must spend thousands sending them to a specialist magazine restorer. If they tell you there's no hope then try someone else. Keep going until you get the answer you want.

If you couldn't give the poor magazine a home for life why did you buy it in the first place.

Haha I'm terribly sorry PaddyMonty! :p Some certainly have seen better days, esp the older PONY Mags which I used to spend my time filling in the quizzes on 'how horsey are your parents' and making notes on the 10-point get a pony plan! :D (I guess it did work, parents eventually cracked and let me have a loan pony for 3 years, now own a proper horse!!) :)

Might float them on ebay/freecycle/swap shops because I'll do anything for a bit of cash and if not I'm sure I'll be able to fine horsey kid. Thanks for the ideas!
 
Years back some kind soul took a couple of years worth of H & H down to the local recyclling bank but left them stood beside the bin. All were in good condition and tied up with string.

I have to admit they came home with me. :-)

I read and kept what I wanted and that was the first time I realised why we call them banks: you can deposit and withdraw!
