What to do with the afterbirth???

Ok, I know this is a pretty gross question... but the afterbirth is still in a bucket outside my stable

I simply don't know what to do with it

I can't put it on the muck heap as I am on a livery yard and it goes on the farmer's fields. I don't want to bury it in out garden because we have a very 'digtastic' pointer who would no doubt find it!

Help!!!!
 
Find a farmer and ask if you can chuck it in the slurry pit. Otherwise put it in a black bin bag and take it to the tip.
 
Did you blow it up to make sure non was left inside of her - you have to make it liike a balloon!
 
Ha bloody ha... not a chance!

The vet checked it over for me... He was there for the birth so I fluttered my eye lashes and he tied it up for me because it didn't come away straight away, and then just as he was about to leave she cleansed so he could inspect it there and then and I didn't even have to touch it

Either burn it or put it in a quiet corner of a field and let the local wildlife have it.

Personally I wouldnt take it to the tip as it may be considered hazardous.
 
If you buy a nice bottle of Bordeaux, marinade the a/b in it for a couple of hours. Pan sear it and serve on a bed of noodles with a little dauphinoise potatoes and haricot vert on the side.

Serve it up to some feral cats. I'm quite surprised it's not been taken by a cat, dog, fox or badger in all honesty.

We have 100+ cows calve a year. Some eat their afterbirth but the rest of the time it just seems to disappear. Rots anyway even if you don't bury it. I wouldn't think Duncan (my hubby) would mind it on our muck heap, although we have decidedly wetter muck than a horse only yard.

You could always burn it.
 
If you are posh you would invite all your friends round and have a dinner party whilst watching a video of the birth....
 
That's why you've still got it then! Take it out to the field..open the lid and I guarantee it'll be gone by the morning

Ours always get taken down the railway line (ok, Mr Beeching ditched it in 67!) at least half a mile away and thrown out for the foxes; it's always gone by morning! If we chuck it anywhere nearer our dogs are likely to find it and bring it back (on the carpet, ugh!) Must admit, they don't worry me - unless it doesn't all come out, then I panic!
 
Get yourself a nice bit of old hay, and make a nice hay sandwich out of it....then quietly light a match and walk away! It is gross, however we burnt my mares and it was all gone very quickly.

I wouldnt leave it too long tho as it will be proper skusting soon!!

We always used to chuck it on the muckheap - I'd burn it. I think that is what I will do when the time comes. though my dog would probably like it (yuck no way). I once fed some castrated testicles to my ferets and they loved them... though warning to anyone else - DON'T DO THAT, I realised that I had sedated them later on! And I thought they were sleeping for three days because they were happy and full! LOL

Ok... I am going to have to make a decision today because it will have been in the bucket for a week otherwise. I just don't know what is best... YO will not want it left on her land, so I am going to have to find somewhere to throw it where no one ventures aren't I?
 
lol/i cant remember what i did with pigs, but i have a feeling it went in the bin!LOL.i thought it could be harmful to dogs.wont it have started to get rather erm smelly and rotten by now?!

seriously, either tie it up well for the binmen or chuck it in some bushes for the foxes - it will be gone in a jiffy!

We are on a working farm and all the clensing from the animals goes in the dung spreader and gets spread on the land. But in all honesty either dump it for local foxes or put it on the muck heap. In fact - thinking back - my mare foaled at grass - and hers dissappeard on its own overnight. Just leave it somewhere and it will go.
