I was just wondering at what point you need to get passports and get the foalie registered with a society? Troy's Dad, Pro-Set is Sports Horse GB registered, but Hannah is not registered with any breed society as I do not know her lines.

Any advice would be greatly received as I do not have a clue what the next steps are

All I know is that I have my covering certificate (AI) and that I need a DNA test in a few months time.

If its like Ivy, we registered her as a part bred welsh with the welsh pony & cob society, you don't need to do anything now. He doesn't need a passport until he's 6 months or when weaned, whichever is earliest.

We then sent off the passport application with vet markings, with the covering certificate, and got her passport at 6 months.

I'm guessing you would just do the same and apply at say 5 months so you have it as he turns 6 months.

Whatever you do, get the foal registered whilst still on the mare. Otherwise you have to get DNA tests done which can get really expensive as you have to pay for vets visits to take the sample and the tests etc. Plus lots of societies charge more for late registration. If the stallion is registered you should be able to get Troy reg with same society but as a part bred.

I had the foaling cert for my mare but still had to do DNA samples as she wasnt registered whilst still on the mare. No problem registering her with the sports horse society as the stallion was registered.

With my Sec B I had to get DNA from mare and stallion in order to register her. Cost about £300 in the end. If she had been reg as a foal it would have cost approx £100 ( reg + vets visit and ID)

Yeh that would be the best idea and ring them. I phoned Wetherbys as i was soooo confused as what i have to do.

My 2 NF mares are reged with the NF society but have to be DNA tested soon and then reged with Wetherbys and they will have their passports over stamped. The stallion is KWPN but reged with Wetherbys.......very confusing. Then when the foals are born they will have to be DNA tested. This breeding lark is so expensive......but its worth it.

Right, I'll have to remember to phone them next week then I will know exactly what I should be doing. I am just quite confused... I tried insuring him, but apparently you can't insure them until they are 30 days old

Because he was by AI, I'm not too sure what extra regulations are in place, but you could certainly use the SHB for his passport (saves having to register him again if you decide to show him as he'll already be on the Identity Record) You just have to have a sketch done by your vet while he's still on the mare (I usually do mine a month or so before they're weaned when they have their first jab done, so about 5 months old but you will have to have him done when he is DNA'd anyway) I think you'll have to send a photo copy of Hannah's passport too along with the covering certificate. If she competes under any different names for different disciplines, they should be stated too (along with her registration numbers) Please get copies of any paperwork you send off just in case!

SHB(GB) will send you out a foaling card with registration documents and DNA bag later in the season, you fill in the foaling card and send it back and then fill out the registration form and get the vet to do the drawing and take the hair sample for the DNA test and send that all in with your registration fees!!

Hi Becki, I have my foal insured with his Mum up until he is a year old. I looked at doing them seperately and it was going to cost a small fortune - take a look at your policy (i'm with petplan)

I had the DNA done and registered with SHB GB, as you know stallion is SHB GB and KWPN reg - fairly straightforward if its done early. As said above they send you the paperwork and bag for the hair sample.

I later tried to register with KWPN as both parents are KWPN and it was going to cost me a small fortune as the foal was older than 6 months, decided not to bother.

So decide early on and it will save a lot of money.

send an email to SHBgb and see if you can register him there
i had to sent beyonce ID form and dna samples off to KWPN within 10days of birth so i would try and do it sooner than later although the kwpn are generally more strict than other societies.
i got them to fill out the form when she had her IgG levels taken to save on vet call outs

I'm pretty sure that as the Stallion is SHB reg then Troy will go in the Auxilary Stud book rather than just the Identity Record. Thats what happened with one that I bought anyway. If the mare is graded SHB then they go in the Stud Book but if only one parent is graded they go in Auxilary.

Te he... an absolute star

Seriously though, you should see the hock action when he trots, but his bucks are enormous, not looking forwards to trying to sit to those
